Electric Kettles

Electric kettles are far more popular in the UK and Canada than the US. But, once I learned of them, I wanted one.

Had never seen any in a store, but one day a local Dollar General had appliances on clearance. There was just 1 kettle, so I grabbed it. If I remember correctly it was between $2 and $4. Really cheap.

Brought it home and put it away. Occasionally I’d think about using it, but I don’t drink enough tea to justify heating up 1.5 liters. So it gathered dust.

A week or so ago my glass top cracked on my stove. Oven had died a while before. We eat a lot of instant ramen bowls or cups, so I dug the kettle out. Works great for anything that just needs hot water.

And, I get a cup of tea after cooking.

You don’t have to fill it to the top! They usually have a minimum level line. At least in the UK anyway.

Mine just has a max line.

I have one and use it everyday. Love it!

Is it true that americans microwave their water into tea?

Many do. Some use teapots. They microwave the water in a cup and then dip a teabag into the cup for a few minutes. I do it. The tea I have is good. It’s herbal. But now I usually use my electric kettle for the water

Yeah. Food in the microwave isn’t always great. Some things are fine in it though.

It is also worth mentioning not to run your electric kettle while having a washing machine running with alongside an oven or otherwise you run a chance of making an electrical fusing

Yeah we use ours constantly. Tea, coffee. Depending on the kettle you can still heat up water as long as you cover the element. It’s surprising they haven’t caught on over there!

nice, this reminds me I still need an egg poaching pan…

We don’t microwave water into tea. At least no one I know does. We put a mug with water in the microwave, heat it, then steep the tea outside of the microwave.

I shouldsay, I used to. I haven’t had a microwave in a few years. No real use for it.
