I have just had the third out of four ECT treatments. After that I shall have one treatment monthly. In my case they have given up on medicine, and ECT is snyway more effective for me.
The worst thing about the treatment it is the narcosis, otherwise it’s not that bad, and i can already see an improvement, and hardly any side effects but sore limps like i have run an marathon, and a transient memory loss (i can never remember the first fifteen minutes after i’m awake.) So less side effects than meds.
Yes, and it can be life saving when it comes to catatonic schizophrenia. I once met a psychiatric patient who told me, he had been in a deep catatonic state, risking his life, one treatment og ECT stopped it.
Ive had around a 100 treatments over the course of 20 years. It help a little but I completely lost some of my memories. I hope the maintenance treatments work for you…
I had a lot of ECT treatments back in the 1990s and 2000s…it was very effective for me. They don’t have any place that does them now where I live. I lost a lot of memories from around when I had them…my family tells me I used to work at a Taco Bell but I have no memory of it. I used to like the feeling of the anesthetic putting me to sleep when I had it. I, too, did monthly maintenance treatments for awhile.
Thanks, yes i hope so too. There is hardly any side effect when its only one time monthly. The worst that can happen, is that i don’t remember the day i received ECT:
