what is dying to the self in your thinking? just wondering. im not sure exactly what it is but im familiar with the phrase. I think it means getting rid of your ego.
on that note i heard an interesting quote recently, maybe from one of your posts i dont rememeber. that the ego is the only part of the mind which wants the ego to be destroyed or something. seemed an interesting quote and makes you think.
maybe obliterating the ego is not the goal by taming of the ego. After all the ego is a part of the psyche. its not evil, just evil when it becomes the lead of the mind. Similarly people talk about the death of the body, when in reality what we need is not the death of that body, just the taming of it.
So death seems to be a term used not in its traditional sense. More of a “death” in terms of it not holding the seat of authority in the mind. The ego imo should “die” from being king but not die entirely.

The essence of life is to find the ego ideal. A healthy ego negotiates for us a comfortable “place” between the superego and the id…imo

I’m all about embracing chaos. That may mean I don’t get my preconceived conceptions fulfilled. I guess my expectations would die daily. I’m not an extremist or aesthetic. I believe in moderation within this framework. Currently, I’m working on trying to deny artificial wants to save money. It truly is a daily death.
