Dry cleaning

I have a couple of suits that I need dry cleaning but don’t want the expense.

I googled it and it says you can get a mesh bag and wash in delicate cycle using cold water and soft detergent.

Has anyone tried this? does it work? Has anyone ruined their clothes using this method?

Cheers in advance for any response.

I use a steam machine.

?
do you feel it cleans?

Either, but the tall one is more robust and wont break down in my opinion.

I learned this technique a while back -
the steam will be so high heat it kills bacteria and odors and remove wrinkles.

It’s a good to steam clothes between wears instead of washing machine in general cause it doesn’t wear out the clothes.

If there is a stain spot treat it with detergent if possible. And steam it dry.

It’s worth it. I also use the steamer to clean kitchen counters stovetop,

The steam breaks down the crud and oils and make it easy to wipe.

There are separate machines for kitchen but my budget is low.

There are cheap ones that just do the ‘ironing’ but the sabi cleans but it is quite pricey!!!

I’m going to risk a delicate cycle, I think…

Good luck.

Also to mitigate damage
Reverse the suit
Air dry.

How dirty is your suit

Maybe this is worth it - 40% off too.

I went and hand washed the suit jacket. It seems ok except for my extreme worry about it, so I got a decent hand held steamer for next time.

It costs £20 per 2 piece suit to dry clean and the steamer was £45 so just over 2 uses and i have made the money back.

It is a BREVILLE Elite Diamond Ceramic Clothes Steamer

I am so hoping I haven’t ruined my jacket though. It is done now so fingers crossed!

I hope it turns out okay from the washing.

You can look up how useful steamers are for other clothing and uses.

If you’re looking at clothing and it has a tag that says dry cleaning only, that is your cue to run screaming in the other direction. I have done the delicate in a bag thing and it works with cold water. Steam after to remove wrinkles. Best advice is to avoid that crap, however. Not worth the hassle.

I don’t wear formal wear enough to bother owning. Much easier to rent on the rare ocassions I need. Tuxedos and suits are all rentals for me.

Good luck with your suits.

Sometimes it pays to buy.

Yay! Luckily, the cold wash didn’t shrink or ruin my suit!

All dried and fresh now. I won’t do it like that again though as the worry was off the scale.

The steamer will arrive today, so I am in the clear for the future.

Thanks for the tip about the steamer though! Cheers
