Drug interaction question

Lets assume Abilify and prozac are taken together. Prozac is known to increase the blood levels of abilify. If i take 10mg of Abilify, how much would blood levels of Abilify will be increased if its taken with prozac ?

Wiki page says Bioavailability of abilify is 87%. So that means if just take a single abilify 10mg drug, i will only absorb 8.7mg, right ? Now after only absorbing 8.7mg, i combine abilify with prozac, how much would 8.7mg will be increased to ? WIll 8.7mg become - 10mg, 12mg, 15mg or something else ? I’m confused how much can prozac increase abilifys blood levels.

Math was never my strongest subject.
I do know when I switched from Geodon to Abilify, there was a couple of days where they both overlapped and I felt pretty odd and couldn’t sit still for more than a minute-if that.
It wasn’t a nice feeling at all.

Mixing anti psychotics and antidepressants only your doc can tell you which ones may go together. Before I mixed celexa and risperidone and had to go to ER.

My pdoc gave me Prozac when I’m on Abilify. I’m not sure if she had checked interactions or wanted an Abilify boost.

I had this problem with celexa and invega which is very similar to risperdal. I didn’t have to go to the hospital but it was a pretty bad reaction. I checked with a pharmacist before taking it and they said it wasn’t recommended they be taken together. I think it was because of some heart thing but I am not sure.

I believe the heart thing is called QT prolongation basically irregular heart rhythms and in extreme case can lead to sudden death.

Good call. Yes, prolonged QT interval can be fatal. Geodon does it, so I can’t take any other meds that do it too. Yesterday I was prescribed an anti nausea drug which said on the print out not to take if you have a prolonged QT interval. I don’t blame the doc who prescribed it, not many are aware of how Geodon can’t be mixed with a huge list of drugs I keep on my phone.

Reading that fact sheet with the pill bottle saved a trip to the hospital!

Ask your pharmacist. I use Walgreens and they are great there, I ask the pharmacist often even when I pick up something like Benadryl. Also, less is more with meds–you want to be on as little as you need. But take as much as you need–just not more than you need.
