My life in America was quite interesting. I visited many tropical places such as Venezuela, Costa Rica, Sonora in Mexico and elsewhere. I also went to downhill skiing in the Rocky Mountains and skied in Aspen and elsewhere. Now looking back I wonder how I was so courageous in my younger years. I liked downhill skiing, it was a different life then. Nowadays I am happy to ride my bicycle and I did ride my bike today for two hours. It was -11 C, but I felt warm. Have you done downhill skiing?
I wrote my thesis in Atlanta and my thesis advisor was one man who had served in Vietnam. His helicopter had fallen twice and in his business card he expressed some good thoughts such as ‘without courage all other values are meaningless’.
I did some skiing in my youth
Haven’t skied in decades
I’ve been skiing in Aspen too.
And other places.
When I was in my 20s.
I had a friend who was a snowboard instructor.
Never tried that, too intimidating.
Plus you spend a lot of time sitting on your ass in snow.
Skiing is better.
I think I only went skiing once or twice. I probably could have done alright if I had gone more often. I did manage to ski down hills. I drove through Aspen once.
I used to downhill ski all the time day and night and after work. Twas awesome.
Because we got lots of snow I am getting my cross-country skis ready.
I went skiing a few times in Lake Tahoe. We had a helicopter detachment near there for a while. We took our flight surgeon out to helicopter ski while we’re there just out in the nature. Not at the slopes.
I couldn’t do the black diamonds though unless I was on my butt.
Yeah I feel that when we are younger we are more brave (or more stupid?). Especially before the illness.
Btw -11º… I would feel the cold lol
Tried skiing once. Broke my leg skiing once.
My policy is to not repeat mistakes.
I snow ski once in my life on a college trip. it was great…got to stay in a castle.
Yes I do freestyle snowboarding. Coldest I snowboarded in was about -16 celsius and other times -25 with windchill.
Have to wear a facemask and goggles and stuff. Toes get pretty cold
In other words NOOT NOOOOT
I did a lot of downhill skiing in both the US and Canada. It was always so beautiful. It was breathtaking. I would sometimes just stop on the mountain and enjoy the view. It’s magnificent
I think intelligence is more important than bravery. It is possible to have a stupid bravado that gets a lot of people hurt. Both attributes are very important, but I would say that insight is the most important quality to have.
I didn’t get sick until age 30. Before then, in my twenties, my grandparents took us out skiing quite a bit and I did a lot of blue courses. I never did black diamond slopes, I was too scared of picking up that much speed and crashing because of it. I moderated my speed on the blue courses by zig zagging left and right as I went down, and picked up as much speed as I was comfortable.
When I got sick I became terrified of everything for a few years so I couldn’t do any of the courses anymore and just kind of sat at the lodge. I could probably work my way back up to where I was these days now that I’m mostly better, but the grandparents are now a bit too old to risk injury skiing (grandpa is 80).
I loved those black diamond runs but I could never do moguls for the life of me.
