Dopamine and negative symptoms

Boosting dopamine either with Abilify or L-Dopa supplement can cause symptoms similar to mania but at the same time these two improved my negative symptoms by a lot. I am not taking risks so I stopped the dopamine supplement I am taking.

“Different impulse control disorders have been described including gambling, compulsive shopping, eating disorders and hypersexuality. Behavioral disturbances, most commonly aggressive tendencies, are the norm. Psychosis is also common.”

I thought with schizophrenia, dopamine is high some places, lower in others. There’s more than just dopamine. I benefited from glumate changes too from supplements. There’s dopamine, serotonin, and glutamate hypotheses.

Yes, problem is if you boost or block dopamine it will affect the whole brain. My pdr told me there is no meds that target specific brain areas. Also you would need to take a pill for every brain part. Other receptors and neurotransmitters indirectly affect dopamine. Glycine boosts glutamate and it caused me similar side effects as dopamine.

Look up ways to boost dopamine naturally. Foods exercise music whatever. I cut my med in half and I notice I feel better but I did it without a doctor. I was on resperidone too and abilify combined and I drank a lot and gambled but I didn’t feel that bad. I wouldn’t want to be on risperidone on its own and I’m glad 5 mg haldol works well for me.

I think its the same for me as boosting dopamine with the supplement, it reduces meds efficacy. I won’t reduce my meds either. Music is good, yea. Exercise is hard but I walk a lot inside the house mostly.

You might just have to push yourself! I mean I have lack of motivation that people mistake as laziness but I’m going to gym and have a personal trainer too! I try to get out and have seriously started eating everything super healthy. Like I looked up ways to boost testosterone and dopamine and I’m doing all that! How is your diet? Like I eat super clean dude it’s a must! I recommend it

It actually helps a bit, kinda like caffeine.

Don’t give up either ! Things might change and probably will. Maybe the dopamine supplement is not that bad for you?

Thanks, I am asking my Dr about it 27 April but I think long term its bad. I wont take it until then.

A lot of people here might improve dramatically overtime and maybe won’t even be on meds in the future. Like everything changes stuff happens

Its hard to believe lol Statistics show that only like 3% can live without meds.
