Does switching to e-cigs count as stopping smoking?

I haven’t had a real cigarette in over 3 weeks now. Have been using e-cigs. I used to be a heavy smoker (40+ a day).

I may have quit tobacco but I am still addicted to nicotine.

I don’t know if e-cigs are a less damaging way to ingest nicotine. You could try chewing tobacco, but that might give you mouth cancer, and it’s a revolting habit. I don’t know how well gum or patches work. If this is a better alternative for you then by all means use it, but I would first check it out to see if it is really better for your health.

I’m on ecigs. There’s no such thing as a risk free vape, but doctors seem to say “oh good” a lot when I tell them I’ve switched as I too was a heavy smoker. You probably have a better chance of quitting ecigs than real cigarettes.

But, the ideal would be no ecigs too. They’re not risk free. So to answer your question, I would say no, haven’t quit yet, but have probably shifted the problem to something safer.

You’re a non smoker, keep going!! you know what to do now.

e cigs is vaping and you might not need it forever - don’t be in a hurry to stop it - give yourself a chance!

well done and you can do it

Im 100% sure its not remotely as bad for you as smoking tobacco !!!

40 + a day will kill anyone

I was 40 a day for about 14 years… that was 9 years ago i switched to patches and lozenges and that took me 2 years longer to stop them… treat it like a life long process, respect yourself

I don’t smoke, but I just had an interesting idea…

What if they made nicotine drinks. Like red bull, but with nicotine instead of caffeine and the other junk they add to it. Hell, I’m sure there’s a way to extract just the nicotine from tobacco leaves and add that to a standard beverage. Imagine if they added that “shot” at Starbucks.

And personally I would consider smoking e-cigs the same as smoking cigarettes. The main difference is that you’re inhaling a different cocktail of chemicals than with cigarettes. Though I guess not inhaling actual smoke is probably a +. It’s like the question: Is vaping still considered smoking weed? Same base chemical, just a different method of extraction.

gotta disagree with that

The “The main difference is that you’re inhaling a different cocktail of chemicals than with cigarettes.” part? I honestly don’t really know what’s in the e-cig juice (except for nicotine obviously), so I’m just guessing there’s other crap in there that’s bad for you, but IDK.

I do see e-cigs to be better than smoking, but just not quite the same as officially quitting.

I have two friends who went from cigs to vaping, and then tapered down on the nicotine until they were able to quit vaping. One has been smoke and vape free for a year now. Vaping works. Also, congrats! You are doing fantastic and need to give yourself a pat on the back!!!

Between cigarettes and e - cigs, e- cigs are the lesser of the 2 Evils - but at some point, you might want to phase out of vaping altogether.

But really, good for you for not smoking - its a huge start!

The cancer causing nitrosomines happen when tobacco is cured and ultimately released into your lungs when it is burned. No burning - no “curing” - then no nitrosomines in your body.

So yes - e-cigs are much better for you.
