If marijuana caused schizophrenia everyone would have schizophrenia. There would be a massive increase in the number of people with schizophrenia at the very least, especially with legalization in many countries and states in the US. But there isnāt. Itās still the same amount of people.
There has to be a genetic pre-disposition to develop schizophrenia for it to occur. This is a fact and recent science. Does smoking weed for those with a pre-disposition to develop schizophrenia play a role? Certainly yes, but it in and of itself does not directly cause schizophrenia.
Iāve had symptoms way before I ever tried marijuana. When I was a teen I smoked a lot of it. I canāt say for sure whether I wouldāve turned out any different but Iām inclined to say Iād still be schizophrenic.
To this day, large doses cause me to have more delusional thoughts. But I have found microdosing helps calm my anxiety and allows me to sleep without ramping up symptoms of SZ too much.
I sometimes have cravings for weed because i feel stable. But then i remember that i have some unusual beliefs related to sz and i dont want them to be hyped. I dont need to see reality āas it really isā at the moment. Im more interested in do i get sick in a year than do i get sick in a day. Im more interested in listening to pop than being popped
Sometimes marijuana can have additives like PCP or even embalming fluid. That was one reason I got my disease. I could only smoke one joint at a time because it made me so wasted, and I used the stuff for three months. I have not had any pot since I was twenty-five years old and I am fifty one now. I found that it made my schizophrenia much, much, much worse. And even before I was ill and I used it daily it made me stupid as Beevis and Butthead.
This is exactly what we were taught in school. I would avoid it altogether but I think people tend to use marijuana when they are trying to find a way to blame themselves for the onset of sz
Just to be clear I think no one should smoke marijuana. Or do any drugs of any kind. It can definitely cause psychotic symptoms and is terrible for your mind and body. Iāll never touch a drug again, besides my medications.
