Dear All
I suffer from paranoid schizophrenia. I hardly suffer from any negative symptoms may be to completely no extent. However, I may have psychotic episodes even while taking medicines. I don’t know I never have or had any insight in this regard. What I’m most troubled is some type of persecution by my boss or someone superior in hierarchy. Does CBT help with paranoidness especially paranoid anxiety.
I was in denial with little insight until I had cbt, all I knew was I was very frightened and very much in pain. I’m like you, I still have episodes, even when on mess, bu cbt helps me immensely. It helps me get out of my head and see other evidence.
It didn’t help me with depression or general anxiety but
CBT has been huge in helping me leave the house and my agoraphobia is a function of paranoia, certainly. But CBT without medication wouldn’t do anything for my psychosis, personally. I have to have a level of being able to be talked to and consider options “objectively” in a sense to get any benefit from CBT.
I wish you well if you pursue it and if your care team says it’s a good idea then I don’t see why not. Hope that helps and take care.
CBT has helped me over come a lot of catastrophic and negative thinking. Getting rid of all the doom and gloom constantly swirling in my head, I’ve been able to knock down some of the paranoia as well.
I see it as a life long work as well. I have to go back and re-read and do the work over again when I find things are creeping back up. It’s not a one shot fix all… it’s a continuous process.
It’s also helped me stay on track through a thought process like cooking and other tasks.
I’ve seen a lot of articles saying that CBT only helps secondary symptoms and not some of the primary ones… but for me… a reduction in ANY symptoms was worth it.
