Does anyone know anything about music production

I’m going to learn how to make beats. The first step is to commit to one program. There is fruity loops, logic, ableton. I’m not going to pay for protools. He told me to choose a program and get a cracked version and eventually buy the full software. I’m leaning towards fruity loops. Because I really like fruit loops and it’s cheap. But what do you think?

I think there’s a guy here on the forum who makes decent music. Jay Jones is his name on SoundCloud here’s a link. Listen to Fly Away [Prod by Scar] by Jay Jones #np on #SoundCloud

I read The Dance Music Manual. Some of the editions are very expensive, but years ago I found one that was about 20 dollars. Perhaps it’s outdated now, IDK

There are some good resources on YouTube.

I use FL Studio. I find it to be good. Some of the cheaper editions don’t have ASIO driver support which is important for recording external sounds and applying live effects to them.

I can’t speak to the virtues or faults of other DAW’s because I haven’t really used them, except some of the freeware trackers like Jeskola Buzz.

I’m glad you find success with fl studio though!! Apparently it’s 200-300 depending on which version which I might purchase next month when I get more money!

Thanks! It’s also important to remember, that FL Studio doesn’t include a huge suite of synths and samplers.
They want to control the cost by letting you decide what you want and need. I think most of them include slicex and Edison, which are very important for editing samples, which is probably very important for hip hop/rap.

Good luck in your efforts!:slightly_smiling_face:

One of the key points my music teacher said is he wants to teach me how to compose rather than sample as much! Which is why he’s going to teach me how to play piano as well. He is also going to teach me how to use samples, but he said a real advantage is learning how to compose really well. Thanks for the advice. He said at the end of the day they’re similar in terms of what you’re capable of, it’s just what you’re comfortable with. The guy really knows his stuff and he seemed to think it’s jist what I’m most comfortable with rather than what’s “best” based on what we’re doing.

Hey dude… I’ve used Logic and Ableton both good…

Logic is pretty nice cuz it’s really easy to record and add tracks, also works good on mac

Ableton is nice since it has good sounds and workflow… you can get good sounds for logic too but I think u need to buy that.

I’ve heard good things about fl studio so u might want to work with that

I did a bunch of songs using a DAW called Reaper. It’s pretty cheap but a little complicated. It’s nice though that it works on both Macs and PCs so I was able to collaborate with my friend over the internet.
