Does anybody like punk rock?

One of my most memorable shows was The Business in 2000 or something, Drinking and Driving get’s going and I’m singing along with everyone and this cute little chelsea girl throws her arm around me and lays her head on my shoulder, so we’re both bopping around to the show when they stop and say "how many punks here make some noise! yaaaaah, what about the skins? raaahhhhh, so how about us normal people like us? And this girl raises my hand and then next thing I know her twice the size of me skinhead boyfriend sees us and comes up with all but his fists up going (WTF?) and I’m out of there while this girl is calling after me.

Spent the last part of the show hiding in the bathroom with what troops I could gather, ha.

Punk. I used to hangout with a pathetic excuse for a crew. Never got into dressing the part (already had really) despite their now and then encouragment and wasn’t really into much of the music. Okay, here’s a name that got tossed around back then though I’d never heard any of his music until my 30’s…

I like only 2 of his songs…one he didn’t even write. This is the other one:

GG was a hard ticket to put it mildly. I like the song ‘don’t talk to me’ . I never got that into gg but I like a couple songs too. I actually never heard that song you posted before. I’m going to give it a couple listens.

Yeah I heard it was one thing when he was young and not into the whole pooping on stage thing, that’s when a lot of people who knew him put the brakes on. I can’t say I have a lot of respect for him, though a lot of his early stuff he may have been drumming and doing vocals.

Whatever. Controversial stuff.

I tended to stick to more mainstream stuff that had got me into it in the first place like The Offspring and Rancid…but as for local stuff I can remember putting up the wall around the pit/circle and even making the occasional stomp across it to these guy’s and more.

Not bad. It kind of has a bit of the ‘newschool’ sound as I call it with some Ska. I got into some Ska I liked op ivy who were Ska influenced tim’s band before rancid you probably heard em. https://youtu.be/83e9hyP4nW4

yep.

It’s actually unique to most of their music which is harder, but yeah it does have that offbeat ska-ish riff to it. Actually the next song on that link “The social Monster” gave me a half flashback I hadn’t heard it in so long…that chant “No need for police!” Wow. I was young then but already fractured and messed up.

Much like you I never really got into the fashion of punk. No Mohawks or leather patches or piercings and whatnot. I used to be somewhat close minded toward other types of music but now I don’t mind listening to pretty much anything besides certain types of country music or ‘Christian’ music. In fact I grew up in a house where my mom played classical music and piano. I still listen to a bit of punk especially bad religion and nomeansno. I think bad religion are an amazing band probably my favorite of that genre.

I like Bad Religion and the Ramones. Early Green Day too. I don’t really listen to punk a lot.

Love early greenday, they’re first 2 albums were freaking great.

Never got into metal aside from some early hardcore I ripped from a GF’s cd collection.

However the last time I got back into drumming I for the first time took to drumming to metal. This schizo-hippy-typal guy self taught guitarist would rock on for hours and we’re in this studio space with top of the line equipment. I really got to use my bass drum tripplets for the first time playing with others (it’d been a uselss skill other than jamming until then) I have a cd recording, not our best, but I can’t for some reason convert it to mp3 or anything else.

That’s awesome man I always wanted to drum, and even tried to but I wasn’t cut out for it.

Metal drummers can be enormously talented. Matt Greiner and Chris Adler come to mind.

Yeah, started lessons at ten and been at it off and on since. I just really never had enough cymbals for the more metal minded musicians who stopped by, those things are expensive…I mean I’d gotten away with a few splashes for a bag or two at the local music shop but…I don’t know, I wish I could’ve picked up the guitar but could never memorize chords/finger positions. Because I learned later I had a good ear for music, helping write songs, composing digitally or drum machine/vocals.

Once during a benzo withdrawal induced loss of my mind/stoned out of my mind I dubbed the Muslim call to prayer over video of the Episcopal Eucharist ritual and thought it was freaking beautiful but then I could’ve just been freaking out and stoned.
