I just got back from the grocery store. I really wasn’t out of food, but I have an ongoing fear that I will. Also, I hoard tissues. I’m afraid I won’t have one when I need to cough or blow my nose.
I hoard beauty and skincare products.
My father is somewhat of a hoarder.
He doesn’t like to throw away food.
My mother was a bit of a hoarder. Nothing gross. Various things. Things she would never be able to use in her whole life. But she thought she might one day need them. I would question her and she said someone might need it. But who? No one needs a thousand rusty screws. If I need screws I go to the hardware store and buy the exact screw I need, i’m not digging through a bunch of mismatched rusty screws. Jeeze mom. Anyway, I developed the opposite of hoarding because of her. I throw everything away. So I’m always having to buy stuff.
I used to be a hoarder. I would get sentimentally attached to things like sugar packets and price tags. I had binders full of price tags, it was bad. But when I was homeless, I lost everything. Now, I just take pictures of things I want to remember, and I can throw them out.
I suspect that not wanting to throw out food is pretty common for anyone who has had to go without sufficient food at some point during their lives.
My dad doesn’t throw stuff away. We have a thrift shop that puts bright orange price stickers on their merchandise. He refuses to take the stickers off.
Maybe my hoarding comes from when I was homeless in 2008. I didn’t have anything, except my car and some clothes.
I hoard clothes in my closet, and I have a lot of eyewear, and jewelry.
I suppose I hang onto stuff more so than I should, just in case I need it someday, though I don’t think of myself as a hoarder.
Reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes comic quote: “How many boards would the Mongols hoard if the Mongol hordes got bored?”
Like @Leaf, i am the opposite of a hoarder. I am kind of a minimalist and get rid of stuff a lot.
I used to be a shiit collector back in the day.
Nowadays i get rid of alot of stuff i dont use or need… Feels good actually
Yes my father was raised during WW2
He came from a large family and they were basically poor.
Your right @Moonbeam!
I hoard games and books from Humblebundle.com. There’s always some deal going on and the bundles are sometimes up my alley, matching my interests, but I have so many damned games and books I’ll never even use 1% of them.
I don’t hoard, been known to throw out everything I own when ill. I have a lot of tools but its my work so not really a hoard.
I hoarded video games systems and strategy guides. I’ve had to move so often in the past that I started selling off things in my hoard
I got a total of about 2500 dollars selling on eBay and printing labels myself
It was easier than most hoards because games are 100 digital these days, and each has its own wiki which defeats the purpose of strategy guides. Collectors still have no problem collecting the stuff though
I hold on to things because I am poor and never know when or if I will get something again.
I don’t hoard as I hate clutter. I like to give away things a lot. But I have a weakness for books
My art room is full of boxes of papers. I am working on the clutter. I clean one thing at a time. I have cleaned out the coat closet and am giving coats to Goodwill. I cleaned out one drawer of the antique dresser. We always have stuff to give away.
My mother is a really severe hoarder, so I’m the opposite. Growing up like that makes me not want to keep anything. I’m always worried about clutter and stuff getting too bad.
