Does anybody else on here have no empathy?

Me too.

I think I’m more empathetic than the average people.

I have empathy for lobsters getting boiled alive to be eaten which most people don’t.

I cry when I see charlottes web or films and movies and I can feel other people sometimes and understand and care.

I have empathy for animals and people etc.

I am a empath.

I try to be as cruelty free as I think I can be.

I’m sorry to hear you don’t care.

Happy cake :birthday: day!

Well it bothers other people who know like my sister. I care about the living situation of my girlfriend. I want her to live well and be with me. Its weird because I feel like I don’t care. It too bad that I see my schizophrenic friends suffering. But I feel that I am a good person. I just want people to live well. All the crap is just crap. it doesn’t matter. Idk. I need off invega maybe I’ll be different

I actually don’t know if I’m empathetic or not, as I try to understand what others feel or are experiencing but I’m only able to relate in a kind of egocentric way…like, I can only understand what they’re going thru if I have actually experienced the same issue. I know when to SAY the right things, but I’m not sure I’m FEELING the right thing. I can only see the world thru the lenses of my own experiences, and I don’t know if that’s empathy.

I have empathy for the chickens I saw being seriously mistreated in a KFC factory under a secret video camera. The factory workers were laughing aswell.

I feel lots of empathy for the people of Ukraine.

I don’t actively go out to seek empathy for people suffering. But I want everybody to be happy.

Im very apathetic and dont feel pleasure much or have any interest in much. But i hate seeing people being hurt or mistreated, especially if they seem scared or sad or something. Cant stand it.

There are plenty of people who can feel empathy but are cruel, awful people. I see no reason why you can’t be a good and decent man without it.

I boycotted KFC for years because of incidents with chickens. It isn’t an issue now because there aren’t any near here. I say good for you!

I have so much empathy. I feel so bad when I see someone suffering and I can’t do anything to help them.

Maybe when I see my friend Connor. It will affect me he got really bad with SZ and MS now I see him on snap chat and I cant believe what I’m seeing and what he’s told me in simple text. But maybe I will just have that force field up. What can I do? Get off invega probably. But I just don’t share in people’s agony. Its not mine to feel

My empathy levels are extremely high
Too high

I feel sick when I see others suffer

Hey @Garbled I think you feel empathy I think the issue is that you may not feel a deep empathy for people suffering but still empathize with people to the extent that you can socialize

I’m very empathetic. I literally feel others’ pain. I suffered tremendously earlier in my life, and it made me never want anyone else to suffer because I know how much it hurts. I don’t wish harm on anyone. I mean, I think rapists and murderers need to be kept away from society, but I wouldn’t want to do harm to them if that makes sense. I’m not trying to bring up politics either. I’m trying to say my level of not wanting any harm on others.

Spoiler warning: “Divergent” movie series

I also experienced at least about 2 months of psychosis.

I don’t think that is the source of people sometimes looking in my eyes and seemingly thinking that I’m not feeling enough empathy for them, though.

My sister recently started comparing me to the character Caleb in the movie series “Divergent.” She even gave me the nickname “Caleb.”

I was a little upset at first, because I had only seen the first movie, and he was far less loyal to his family than I always have been.

So, I recently watched all 3, and I think I see her point, related to yours.

Caleb does eventually come around to loyalty to his family, risking his life and fighting for them. However, capable personality researchers call him “damaged” because he is so “intelligent” that he lacks some “compassion.” He also over thinks things instead of acting sometimes, with “Four” telling him something like: “Can you get out of your head for a minute Caleb? These people are dying and I’m going to DO something about it.”

I think I’m guilty on both charges. My intelligence has sometimes allowed me to rationalize things I’ve later recognized as terrible. I also sometimes overanalyze instead of acting quickly.

Could that be the case with you too? Could your intelligence be affecting your perceived empathy?

For an academic treatment of the topic instead of a theatrical one, you might look into the “Big Five Personality Traits.” I think that the 2 in particular that may be interacting as described above, in my case, are “Openness,” related to intelligence, and “Agreeableness,” related to empathy.
