Does any AP improves cognition?

Thats the question. Im going to try vraylar next month… I’ve read that it helps with negatives, I hope it helps me with concentration and stuff…

I’ve not found anything that improves it beyond quieting down positive symptoms. The usual goal is to find one that inhibits cognition the least (Geodon was good there for me).

For me the AP makes little difference either way.

Nice to see you here @firemonkey

I feel Invega has helped me. I feel more clear on it (150mg injection) I’m not obsessing about things on it.

I think it standards to reason that if they work i.e. they control symptoms then they all do. No one has the best executive function when you are full blow psychotic, neither full control of their facilitates. You would think this scales with symptoms. Your working model of the world is dictated by your experience, positive symptoms included.

If any one ap is better then the others is a more complicated question.

Cognition is task specific to what you are trying to achieve. In this way if the cognitive task is to think like a schizophernic then it stands to reason the best antipsychotic is none at all. It sucks to have impaired memory but obviously schizophernics are better at divergent thinking. Likey you would better at abstraction and creative processes then gen pop even if you don’t have standard medium that is appreciable.

I think it is common to have an appreciation of things like the Gaia hypothesis in a similar way to that which people experience on psychedelics. The cognitive framework isn’t entirely bad.The experience is a different and unique way of processing the world and that is okay too.

I doubt it. You will probably have much better luck using a couple of nootropics as add-on to the medication.

Not even nootropics have been proven to improve cognition.

Yes they have. If you go to nootropicsexpert.com you will find a list of 100 nootropics all backed up with studies and refrences.

That’s not to say everything works for everyone, just like with AP’s and any other medication.

Medication have been proven to improve cognition in people with illness. In healthy individuals there is an overwhelming lack of evidence and a lot of contradictory results. Dispite all this that doesn’t stop people from drinking a cup of coffee every morning

My cognition has consistently gotten worse over the years. Don’t know if it’s due to the meds or the illness.

Schizophrenia isn’t neurodegenerative, could just be aging

I’m 35. I think it’s because of loss of focus and concentration and distraction because of voices.

Maybe just out of practice, it is definitely harder to concentrate. Cognition lowers with the development of schizophrenia but doesn’t get worse over time

If it doesn’t get worse over time, it’s definitely not aging.

Anyway. I’m moody.

It breaks my heart to tell fellow suffleres that most schizophrenics has an average Intelligence of 79 point and that means that we have an intelligence of that of a ■■■■■■■■. And that is because we score so low on the cognitive tests. I was almost crying when I found out. That’s no fun to find out that you were one of the brightest pupils in school and now you have degraded to a ■■■■■■■■.

I’m having problems with cognitive ability. I’m unable to watch a movie or play a game or follow long conversations.

Where did you get that ‘79’ from?

It’s so unpleasant for me to think of that I’m gone from bright to stupid in a period of 30 years, but I got it from a neuro scientist on you tube.
