It’s not illegal that the OP (original poster) got an incorrect prescription. That’s not a crime. I would leave a message three times at the doctor’s office saying, “I have a question regarding my benzodiazepine refills” and leave it at that. The word “benzodiazepine” would catch any decent doctor’s attention because the pills are highly addictive. If the OP is concerned that they may get addicted to the pills, they shouldn’t throw them away. If they throw them away, then there is no proof the OP did not take them. They should give them to a trusted friend or family member who will keep them locked up away from everyone.
I appreciate your sincere answer and concern.
I wasn’t planning to go out of my way to tell him about the refills, as I’ve already called a few days ago,
And I’m still not planning to call them everyday or drop by their office,
But I am going to tell him at my appointment next week and he can do what he wants from there.
I get little more ativan than I need, but I never say anything, I just use what I need and don’t abuse them in anyway, like yourself I don’t like taking them so no worries there. Never has been in years of having them
“out of the loop”
fyi update to keep you in the loop -
Benzo is now just as restricted as opiods pain killers.
In the usa, many people on medicaid, get addicted to these (above) during treatment. It is very difficult to find a doctor to treat that acciidental addiction.
(doctors just cut them off)
The gooberment also certainly does not want to pay for that addiction treatment.
This leaves the person in the situation of obtaining them in less than ethical manners. Which, of course, adds to the problems.
Thats where the not-so-innocent people come in and make an even bigger mess of things. Some folk on medicaid get these drugs for reduced price or free. They then turn around and sell them.
It is so out of hand, that some people were seeing multiple doctors for the same rx. Then selling them all. All drugs were paid for by medicaid.
Now, people being prescribed these must sign a lot of paperwork saying in short they will not do that. Each person must promise they are not recieving treatment from other places/doctors. Most are even given drug test and periodic verbal screening, and records screening.
There are also legal implications for clinics and doctors to who do not screen.
Benzos are just that good or what
Never had them myself . (they would probably kill me as i have a brain deformity of over vascularization. would soak them rigjt up)
One of my relatives came from an appointment at a pain clinic. She said she understood but felt insulted by what she had to do to get her rx.
I have also see this on the news and read of it too. It is driving up addiction and the budget of medicaid.
I image it is costing local government(s) some cash too as they deal with the fall out.
The people who get accidently addicted usually turn to street drugs after being cut off.
So you can imagine, those folks are ending up in court ordered treatment programs at the exspence of the city or county.
It starts innocently, but gets out of control. Then they are turned into the bad guys by the way things are done. And of course other medicaid reciepiants looking to make some cash.
I took clozapam for like a month then my doc stopped me. Thank God.
It is a different situation if you are under the care of a single doctor, follow directions, and communicate with the doctor on a frequent basis.
Didnt mean to turn you off of treatment. There is nothing wrong with seeking treatment. The things i was talking about, it mostly happens with regular doctors and specialty clinics for pain management.
How ever, yes, some medicines used for psych meds can cause addiction or be re-sold.
You should not be afraid to take your medicine. We, have a rare added benifit with psychiatrist also: They are used to having to taper up or down or switch.
Even with things as common as ADs, we taper because in a way, we are addicted, thus we have withdraw side effects when we suddenly stop.
It is a good safety net too have!
