Can I tell my pdoc what I want to take? Meds wise

I have a pdoc appointment in like 3 days do you guys think I am able to tell her exactly what medicine I want to take for anxiety I want to take a benzo like xanax .if i don’t she will most likely put me on another antidepressant if I don’t ask her.i was put on Prozac but it made me worse so I don’t want to try another one and have it fail so u would rather take something like a benzo a for sure thing that helps with anxiety.

I think you should discuss it with your pdoc so you can find what’s best.

Benzos are a crap shoot. Some doctors will prescribe them others wont. The nightmare scenario is changing doctors and suddenly not being able to get a prescription and having to quit cold turkey.

Benzos are only effective in the short term as you build up a tolerance to them and they stop working.

Xanax is for addicts, stay away from that one

I take Xanax nearly every day and I am not an addict. It has a purpose. But I can go days without it and don’t have any kind of withdrawals or anything.

My doctor prefers Klonopin over Ativan.

I was shot up with a high dose of Ativan for no reason in the psych hospital 3 years ago and I began to hallucinate from it.

Stay away from Xanax if you can.

My psychiatrist would probably let me try any drug I wanted as long as it was applicable to my condition. I chose Zyprexa as the most recent one because it helped my Grandfather with delusions when he had Parkinson’s. Other pdoc’s probably would prefer they make all the decisions, but I like being involved.

My dr once told me that the effects of Xanax are so short lasting that you get anxiety coming down from it so the net efffect is negative

I don’t know what people who abuse it get out of it. If I don’t have anxiety it does nothing for me. I can’t even tell that I took one.

But I only take .25 mg and only get enough for one a day.

I quit Geodon cold turkey last year but I was still on my Latuda. I had a whole bunch of extra anxiety and my doctor gave me a script for .5 mg of Klonopin. She said that worked faster than Xanax but I didn’t like it. I only took one. I could tell when I took that. I still have 29 of them left.

.25 mg is not much, I’ve seen people hooked on 2 mg bars. I also do not understand the allure of it, maybe it’s like drinking. I didn’t like klonapin either. I take 2.5 mg of Ativan at night and I’m not even awake to notice the effects. I tried to stop once though, and it did not go well, but at that time I was cutting back from 5 mg. Guess half way to 0 ain’t bad

You can ask but it doesn’t mean she’ll prescribe what you want. Where I go, none of the drs prescribe benzos. They refuse.

You can suggest meds, but ultimately it’s up to your doc. I would avoid anything that’s addictive or that you get high from.

Careful not to come off sounding like you’re drug seeking.

I don’t think you should give up on antidepressants because you had a bad one. Sometimes it’s trial and error, and you’ll never find the right one if you don’t try.

It seems like you’re wanting to take the easy way out with xanax. Be careful with benzos, some people get really addicted.

I think a lot of people fail to realize that doctors and psychiatrists are a service to us. They are not the law. Every med i am on i chose myself. When it was someone elses descision i was dosed and doped up with copious amounts of things like invega. You have a say in your own treatment. Hope you get what you need.
