Do you think medications are at least partially responsible for what we consider "negative" symptoms?

Yes I have more energy but less thoughts and motivation.

Negatives were reported before meds. When we got meds and they got a bit more efficient then I think that is the problem. They take care of the positives for a lot of folks but they don’t work on the negatives.

Do they cause them. Probably no.

Do they hide the positives and other issues and make them more pronounced- I think so.

How come you have more energy but less motivation? I think they’re connected together.

My psychiatrist said they can make me sleep all day and reduce energy. I told him I had more motivation and energy when unmedicated, he said its possible but I will have positive symptoms.

According to this research it’s more to do with the disease than the meds.

When I was on an extremely low dose of risperidone four years ago I had the motivation to leave my house everyday but unfortunately I experienced lots of positive symptoms like extreme paranoia.

But yes antipsychotics contribute to the anhedonia and avolition that I experience.

I do however think that my illness also is a factor.

Yes its more the disease but meds also cause some of the negative symptoms from my experience of stopping meds for 1-2y.

I think sedation and lack of will, motivation and alogia are different and distinct things.

I never understood the difference between energy, motivation and will power. They all sound the same to me, I can’t get out of bed.

I saw the difference in schizophrenics I met in real life, they have physical energy but lack “vitality”, they were passive but when we organized trips and motivate them they had the energy to come and walk even for hours.
