Do you take responsibility for your actions?

Or do you blame the “illness” for everything?

  • Yes, I do take responsibility and that’s why I’m on charge of my life;
  • No, I don’t take responsibility and I think that every wrong choice I made was due to my “illness”.

I’m missing a “somewhere inbetween” option.

I take responsibility for my actions, but I can’t deny that some of my past actions have been due to schizophrenia.

I don’t take responsibility because of my delusions. I’m 50/50 on the truth. Still trying to figure it out.

I agree with @Pikasaur, I take responsibility but for some things (‘laziness’, isolation and other things) it is the illness.

I think it’s key to find a balance. You are still a person doing actions even during psychotic breaks. I wouldn’t blame yourself too hard for psychotic actions that are related to the episode. It needs to be a balance between blaming yourself and blaming schizophrenia. There’s no way you can improve your life if you don’t take responsibility for your actions.

I personally don’t take responsibility - because its only after the event - Ive realized i was outta my mind and couldn’t have made a right decision if i was unwell. I was late for me depot jab last week, and spent money and done things i certainly wouldn’t have done if i was medicated. Hindsight is a wonderful thing when you come “out” of an ill period, if you get what i mean x

I had anxiety, insomnia and stpd as a kid, so I have always been an outcast, it played a part in future problems as an adult.

I take responsibility for the most part but they are some things that’s the fault of the psychosis or medication that I can’t change.
