Trump definitely wants to bring back institutions here in the States
That’s scary. I don’t think functioning sz will have to go, maybe.
I put in my 8 months in the 1980’s. Never going back again.
They won’t put anyone who functions well in the community back into an institution. No need to worry.
I support a group home with supported living for those who can’t take care of themselves.
Short term of long term .
Or in home care services with care worker coming to home if needed.
Disempowering and suppressing and abusing people is common in institutions and it’s not ok.
Experiments went on too.
Very scary stuff!
I hope I can live independently the rest of my life.
Places like that can make a person worse and destroy them.
Some very power crazed people work at such places.
Preying on the vulnerable.
When i studied aged care they spoke of empowering the older person not suppressing them “do as your told I’m superior “…
Not empowering them to do crime or evil but day to day independent living best they can.
In Australia people with autism are getting billions and they are so respected and well treated but a schizo or so isn’t given that support or treatment.
Discrimination of mental illnesses?
One has stigma the other is adored by public.
I agree. I wouldn’t be the same if I was still hospitalized.
I put in 16months at a state hospital, that was a living hell!
Very. I do not function in hospitals. I’m not made for captivity. For groups. And I thoroughly hate the power play there. Whether evil or from an intention of care. I tend to be explicit about my dislike for abuse of power…as well as illogical rules…whether aimed at me or others. That is not generally appreciated much in wards. Even if you are polite in your criticism.
There’s a Dutch guy, a young nurse, who decided to rent a room in a closed “home” for people with dementia. He said he was shocked to see it from another side. He wrote a book and calls it a totalitarian system. That dehumanizes people. I think the same goes for psychiatric hospitals.
I’m like you. I hate psych hospitals. It’s one of my aims in life: to never have to go back.
I was only twice in them: in 2011 and 2012, but I still remember it vividly!
Psych hospitals are like a vacation to me. Easy money.
I usually have to pay for my stays! Not the other way around.
I’m unable to work so I’m very afraid of being sent to live in an institution long term.
There needs to be a new hospital system; smaller; a good team of nurses and security, and rooms/stays more like a hotel. The locked system is dangerous for ones mental health.
They are better and more inexpensive ways to treat mentally ill out of hospital. Maybe a temporary stay, but not permanently. Everyone deserves chances to recover.
