Do you know what triggered your psychotic break?

Do you know the trigger? Did it take long to find meds that helped?

First time round it was the stress of a new job. Second time around it was antidepressants.

People. I have persecutory delusions. I see people following me, hearing my thoughts, cameras where there are none. Although there seems to be cameras everywhere now, which bothers me. I have had psychotic breaks at work accusing others of sharing recordings of me, trying to get me rid of me and my department. My boss once took me to the hospital.

Several traumatic things at once. It was like a hurricane was released into my body/mind. The hurricane left ten years later and I survived but my mind stayed unbalanced. I call it demon, but that’s like calling alcoholism demon. I had to fight that storm hard for a long time. I’m glad it left.

Can I ask if you took meds? Did they help?

I was put on medication immediately upon hospitalization. It was one time I truly needed hospitalization. They made me restless for the first two weeks. I support people who don’t want to take it. I take it of my own will knowing the danger of TD because my mind is seriously messed up. They help a good deal.

The meds kicked in within days - i slept for a week - and came out completly different lol.

I think it was stress

I would say that stress was a major trigger for me. I ended up worrying about people spying on me, cameras in my house, people being able to read my mind, following me in their cars, and that some people were actually aliens in disguise. Thankfully the medication has largely stopped these delusions.

My mom’s extreme religious talk of deliverance and demons started my psychosis. Later before breakdown it was school stress final exams. When my sza came back it was stress of leaving home and moving and then getting married and staying with my in laws and later just stress of my husband’s epilepsy and learning to drive which was really stressful

The psychiatrist who diagnosed me with psychosis-NOS believed it was the result of prolonged amphetamine use. He said that I was prescribed the wrong drug (Dexedrine Spansules) which triggered the psychotic episode.
