I work as a massage therapist. It’s low pressure, low stress. Most people can only do massage therapy part-time as it’s hard on your body. Sometimes I think about working full-time, (although I don’t have to). In order to work full-time, I have to switch job fields. This is where I think I’ll get a job that’s stressful.
I’ve read an article that says people with schizophrenia should not work in sales because it’s stressful and to stay away from stressful jobs. Do you agree with this article? Do you find it’s best to stay away from stressful jobs as someone with schizophrenia?
I think that this is true for many schizophrenics, yes. I’m not sure that its true of everyone. You would know your stress threshold better than us. You must have been in stressful situations before. Do they tend to bring out symptoms for you?
For me personally, yes. Stress from my previous job was I think at least one contributing factor to my psychotic break. Current job is dull, but better pay and less stress.
I could handle the stress. It was always the delusions and thinking people were acting that got me. I had a lot of really good jobs.
I planned the largest border operation for illegal alien smuggling and drug trafficking in 2010 with schizophrenia. It was stressful as hell and the delusions became too much half way in and I was hospitalized during the middle of it. I got so suicidal because I had failed. It’s best to avoid stress if it still bothers you.
