Do Probiotics help Symptoms of Schizophrenia

Good day all, hope you’re all doing okay out there! Had a Baked Potato with tuna Mayo and avocado for dinner but ruined it by eating fudge🙁. I also had some coconut yogurt with probiotics. As usual I have only read the results of the study below so hope it interesting if you read it. Have a good day wherever you may be!

@everhopeful thanks for asking, I am doing ok but searching for ways to make symptoms better. One thing I found strange is that a couple of glasses of water in the morning and during the day get rid of a lot of my paranoia. I don’t feel dehydrated but guess ps I must be. Hope you’re doing okay too!

They have helped me, but you need a probiotic source that is packed with CFUs and a good variety of bacillus, not limited strains. Yogurt is good as a food source, but generally useless as a source of probiotics (not enough strains and not enough CFUs to survive gut transit). You either need to buy the very expensive, refrigerated probiotics with high CFUs or do your own fermenting. Sauerkraut and kimchii are both fantastic sources of a rich variety of bacillus both in terms of variety and CFU count.

I started taking them just for my diverticular disease, but was very surprised to discover they help with my depression and negative symptoms way more than my Vraylar does for the latter. My mood is much more stable when I take probiotics and my energy level is higher.

I brew my own kraut and eat about a cup a day.

There’s a syndrome called SIBO, in which probiotics can sometimes turn out unhelpful, because they colonize the small intestine and the symptoms might get worse. In this syndrome, one’s intestine has insufficient motility, and too many microbes settle in it.

But generally, probiotics are great.
