Okay good to know thanks I am moving to the south for the first time in a few months so Iāll have to look into it in more detail. That all sounds quite affordable but wow thereās so many steps, youād think theyād make it easier for the people that have little motivation lol
Yeah it helped for awhile with my depression until suddenly it didnāt. Usually I am able to tell when being high will heighten my anxiety and wonāt smoke on those days. But like I said Iām quitting altogether right now. Either way I donāt regret smoking because it helped me for about a year until it stopped helping and started making it worse. I might not have gotten through that year so itās really just doing what you can to get through right?
Yeah but you might be right. Were you depressed before you had psychotic features? What made you notice a shift if you noticed?
I had psychotic symptoms for as long as I can remember and according to my mom I even had issues before I can remember as well. I did not start becoming depressed until I was 10. So I canāt really give a good answer to that question.
If you start believing weird things, start feeling paranoid, start seeing or hearing weird things, get it checked right away. Tell your therapist/pdoc now about the strange beliefs and see what they think
I cant smoke weed it makes my psychosis way worse so does drinking alcohol.
Omg donāt even get me started on alcohol! I cannot get drunk. The second I cross the line from buzzed to drunk I will try to kill myself⦠The only time I have more than 1 drink at a time is if Iām so numb that I need to cry bc alcohol is guaranteed tears lol
Just so you know, every psychotic episode you have causes brain damage. The longer it goes on, the more brain damage you get. The only way to stop the brain damage is to be treated right away, while itās still in the early stages. It literally shrinks your brain. The brains of people with psychotic disorders contain about 1-3% less grey matter than healthy brains.
It causes brain damage?!!! They didnāt tell me that . I dont like that thats not good
The brain damage is reversible, as long as you get proper treatment. You can read more about it here
Thatās both fascinating and terrifying lol. I am definitely going to see a doc the first chance I get. Letās hope my dad sends me the info in the next few days. And hope he hasnāt been lying this whole time and actually got us insuranceā¦
Thank you for the info! Scary that the thing I noticed was having a hard time with words and the first to go is the parietal lobe which serves that functionā¦You guys have sufficiently scared me enough to get my butt in gear lol so thanks to everybody!!
If you still are interested in neurofeedback, I will say that most of the doctors doing it donāt accept insurance. They usually offer scholarships or a sliding pay scale, though, to make the treatments more affordable.
I highly recommend doing it with a doctor, because there is a whole bunch to learn about the technique and such, but there is also a cheaper alternative. There is a game called MindFlex that uses the same technology as a neurofeedback machine. You strap a sensor to your forehead, and it reads your brain activity in your prefrontal cortex. The sensor is tied into a little fan that levitates a foam ball. The point of the game is to alter your brain activity to make the fan spin faster or slower, which makes the ball float higher or lower. Then, you guide it through an obstacle course. The game tires your brain out much more quickly than the medical-grade machines, though. You have to be very careful not to overuse it.
I donāt like the game, personally, but my brother-in-law uses it, because he is in the Navy and doesnāt want anyone to know he has OCD. He says it helps him, but it took a lot of practice to get it right.
