I think one of the more current theories is that increasing serotonin through antidepressants increases the nerves’ ability to up the quantity of various receptors that they have. The theory states that reduced numbers of receptors might result in depression and the quantity needs to be restored to normal levels. Pills allow this to happen. I think that’s it?
