Last night I was about six hours late taking my meds and I experienced MANY personalities speaking through me. Does anyone here know how common it is to have Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) symptoms along with Schizoaffective Disorder?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4078688/ (Full article)
Thanks so much, @firemonkey! You’re so helpful.
It really was very interesting!! I swear if anyone else would’ve experienced what I did they would’ve said, “YUP, there actually were different beings inside of me.” It was just SOOOOOO realistic.
Anyway, from my understanding, one of the requirements of Dissociative Identity Disorder is the inability to remember even basic things about yourself, which did NOT apply to me the other night. So phew!! At least I don’t seem to have it totally right now.
But yeah, like you, I’ve had a blackout before (several years ago) during which I talked a lot I think, because my roommate snapped me out of it by yelling, “Shut up!!” My immediate response to her was something like, “Oh it’s okay, I’m a medium” – and I have no idea where that came from.
Anyway, again, I agree – very interesting stuff.
I couldn’t read through the whole article, but I have that label (dissociative Identity Disorder) tacked on my forehead as well.
My basic understanding of the article was that there’s a significant link between dissociative symptoms and Schizophrenia.
Anyway, so what interesting things have you experienced with this?
For me, mainly the beings just wanted to state their names (which I don’t remember). Although one said he was a dead CIA agent checking on my well being. Another asked which Earth I was on. Another asked if Obama was still alive. Another said he was an alien and then another (who I sensed to be another CIA agent) said nervously, “So we’re dealing with aliens??” Also, I cursed sometimes, and afterward a being would say, “Sorry, that just had to get out of the system.”
I know there was more but my memory is shot – I think because of my meds. Anyway, it was a TRIP!
I know I lose time, not as much now as in the past. There have been many times where people have said I was very different, including several Pdocs, but I don’t recall what was different.
I also find duplicate and triplicate items I have purchased, and once found 4 sets of a complete file box for important papers. Doubt I was responsible, but then who else would have had the interest?
Not sure if I entirely agree with my Dx, but I seem to have many of the criteria needed for the Dx.
YIKES on the losses of time, huh! I’m glad they don’t happen to you as much anymore. Thankfully I think my only blackout was the one I described above. I wish I would’ve asked my roommate what all I was talking about during it.
So were you ever were told at all what you were acting like during lost time?
Dissociative Experiences Scale, A Screening Test for Dissociative Identity Disorder
COOL! I’ll take it when I have time! Thanks so much!
I hope @Csummers will see it too.
I took the test and got “lower association” with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Yaaaaaay!!
Thanks again for hooking me up with the test!
Aw man, sorry to hear that. At least it’s been years since you’ve blacked out & said things.
My score was just 16.
Holy crapola.
I scored a 58.
I have a history of dissociation due to trauma in my teens…just not the “dissociative identity” aspect of it. There’s still only one of me I or anybody else who knows me is aware of. My first psych doc though…he it turned out was convinced I had an alternate personality named Matt. The thing was though…there WAS a Matt in my past…my first girlfriend’s older sister’s boyfriend…junkie hippie kid named Matt. Ended up dissociating every time I hungout with the guy. Really messed up scary stuff.
Anyway…so yeah I can relate to dissociating but not the multiple personality thing.
Yeah, that sounds pretty high. Sorry to hear it.
Do you have different personalities that speak through you?
Different personalities?
I have been told I behave like a 2 year old child.
Ahahaha!
Anyway, I was surprised at how very little attention the test gave to different personalities speaking through someone. It seems like that would be kind of a big deal but I guess not. The test almost totally focused on how many times someone had blacked out, and to what degree.
Could you describe what “dissociating” was like for you? Not sure I understand. (Don’t do it if it’s going to upset you though.)
I don’t think I mentioned it to my current tdoc but will asap. Had to a few others though. Will have to mention it to my doctor as well. But as she said once to me “You show so many different symptoms every time we see you, we have no idea what you are?”
But they kept with SZ or SZA when dealing with me. Also been on the same meds on and off for about 15 years now.
Yeah it definitely seems like you should tell 'em, with your high score.
I guesssssssss I’ll mention my experience to my pdoc, but I really don’t want to take more medicine. I’ll mention that I scored low on that test, and try to convince him it was just because I was late taking my meds.
