I’ve been very stable on medications for a while and yet I am still very disorganized. My room nearly always looks like a tornado hit it and I’ve always been this way. No matter what I do I cannot change this. I’ve tried calendars and even timers to no avail. I always end up with a huge excavation project, again and again and I’m so tired of the endless pattern that no one likes, even myself. What am I supposed to do? Any ideas?
I identify with the problem.
Be a minimalist. Dont have so much stuff. Just things you need.
I am more disorganized since sz.
Start getting rid of things. A box full a week is what I’m woking toward
The thinxg is coming to this site. and talk about doing instead
My dx is actually BP1 but it is weird. My mood symptoms are mild, maybe cyclothymia but I get psychotic. When you say disorganized I think of disorganized thinking, which as I get older is the most prominent part of my psychosis. I can’t string 2 thoughts together when psychotic and when I talk it sounds like gibberish. If I am writing it reads like Yoda wrote it. I am guessing this is not a psychotic symptom but an everyday organization thing. One suggestion was to be a minimalist. As I have gotten older I crave solitude and simplicity. If it isn’t necessary or provides a great convenience then it gets tossed. It is something your therapist might be able to help you with by using some behavior modification if it isn’t due to psychosis. For me, If I am psychotic with disorganized thoughts it improves when I treat it with meds and my psychosis goes away. If I am not in an episode then I have a tendency to have some OCD behaviors and thoughts that I have picked up as a coping mechanism. Something that I wouldn’t recommend though. My illness is more episodic though and I have periods of remission. My OCD is more prominent during remission because I am hypervigilant about becoming disorganized again, it is a race against time before it happens again is what my thinking entails. Minimalism helps ease my mind of these things.
