Discrmination at the ER

You just have to advocate for yourself. File a complaint if you’re mistreated

I was out of metoprolol and the lady at the door was trying to tell me I had to walk all the way around the hospital in the cold dark. Pissed me off. You want to waste a er visit. How the hell am I doing that when I can’t skip this med? ■■■■■

I went to the ER in 2019 because my heart threw blood clots and into my lungs and brain. Would have died or been mentally crippled for life without the clot-busting meds. If you’re in a situation where you need emergency medical help, just get your arse there.

I have felt the same way in the er. They ask you what’s meds your on and then the dreaded “what do you take those for” my therapist suggested I tell them “my mental health” and I tried this and it didn’t work. The next question was “well what exactly for” and yes when you tell them the whole situation changes.

My family doctors arent too bad it’s a community clinic that sometimes offers counseling for teens and adults I don’t go there for that but they typically dont judge.

The er here in town is another story. They treat me as if I was a normal patient until I tell them the list of medications in on and my diagnosis. I went in for pain and burning sensation in my ankles and feet. They said it was just a rash…uh there were no physical signs of a rash. I called my new family doctor about it she said shes gonna fill out a formal complaint form for me. She also said since both my ankles and feet were affected it’s likely something internal.

The er nurses also treat me as if I’m mentally slower. They talk real loud and slow enunciating everything.

I know you have to advocate for yourself if your mistreated, but what if you don’t have the confidence to do that. I mean when the doctor didn’t believe or take @Ninjastar seriously after you told the doctor the truth, what do you say to the man? How do you get them to take you seriously?

Neurotypicals don’t care…all they want to do is hate. They want to hate all day and night.

@shutterbug how did you get past the physical to get your job? I told my physical doctor what meds I’m on and they made me get a note from my pdoc to prove I could work.

Which job? You don’t need a physical to become an insurance broker (current job). You do for a Class 2 driver’s license for driving bus and heavy trucks, but I’m exceptionally stable and just passed a physical for that in October 2020. They’re more concerned about my heart condition than my head condition.

That’s how it was for me also.

So the U.S. has discrimination baked in, basically? Any employer trying that crap here would be bankrupted by human rights tribunals.

Just wait til I tell you about “fire at will” and how many times I have lost jobs for being gay and not been able to sue.

Weird and horrible. I guess that explains why Americans are so obessed with this stuff all the time. It’s generally not a problem here except for the religious nutters who mostly get shut down when they try and cause problems.

In the US,gays don’t even have the right to adopt in all 50 states and the supreme court just heard a case where a religious foster care agency sued for the right to refuse lgbt clients after the state of PA told them they would lose state funding if they continued to discriminate.

Thats messed up. Reminds me of the time this emp told me my thoughts are all ■■■■■■■■ and I should snap out of it.
