Discovered something cool

My first two concerts are on YouTube! They used to hold these concerts in Oakland, California at the Oakland Coliseum baseball park. They called the concerts “Day on the Green” because they cordoned off the dirt infield but you could go everywhere else; including all the grass and the bands played on a stage in centerfield facing home plate. You could watch the concert from the stands or walk down to the grass.

The first concert I saw was Led Zeppelin. A local artist named Rick Derringer and Judas Priest opened for them. This was July 24th, 1977. It was a significant concert because it was the last concert Led Zeppelin ever gave in America. My parents drove up me and three friends to see them. Me and one of my friends took some acid while were waiting in line. We had a great time, a great experience.

My second concert was the Rolling Stones at the same venue, a Day on the Green. This was July 26th, 1978. Just me and one friend went; I drove us up there. This was significant too because The Rolling Stones hadn’t scheduled a concert for the Bay Area on the Some Girls tour but Bill Graham, a famous promoter who was based in San Francisco, squeezed another concert from them so they played Oakland Coliseum on Mick Jaggers 34th Birthday. It’s on YouTube too! It was wild. We took acid again and the crowd was 64,000 people. I don’t even know how we got tickets, they had only announced the concert two weeks before. For Led Zeppelin it had cost $10.00; for The Rolling Stones it was $12.50 and that was considered a little expensive back then. The opening acts for the Stones were Eddie Money, Santana, and Peter Tosh. It was cool seeing my first concerts on YouTube!
