More than one traumatic event is called CPTSD and having one traumatic event is known as PTSD…
There a poster on the forum with complex type.
What if you have multiple traumatic events, but don’t have PTSD, like me?
I have CPTSD. Lucky me.
If I remember correctly from my psych classes and what therapists have told me about PTSD, everyone gets post traumatic stress. Its nigh impossible to not be affected by something in one way or another after something traumatic happens. The key word in PTSD is disorder. Almost everyone gets post traumatic stress, but not everyone gets the disorder part.
For example, after a car accident most people would have heightened anxiety driving again after the accident, maybe even some nightmares, but it lessens over time. After my accident I have nightmares, flashbacks, I avoid the highway at all costs, and almost refuse to drive in the snow. (My accident happened on the highway in the snow)
Like most mental disorders, it becomes a disorder when daily living is impacted or impaired.
I have CPTSD it’s complex yeehaw
I’m in the cpstd club too! Party over here! But no noisemakers or flashing lights.
I know people with CPTSD. I try to educate myself about it in order to better understand what they go through.
