I didn’t even know as I thought it was a mental illness. Internet says 50% of schizos are treatment resistant which means it’s more disabling for those too.
Yeah, it’s considered the most disabling illness. I think what makes it more disabling than other illnesses is the loss of social cognition/function.
The WHO says schizophrenia is more disabling than blindness.
Yes, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder are disabilities. I for one know this for sure but still, work odd jobs on occasion. I think I learned how to compensate somehow. My next goal is to work as a peer counselor and help those like myself get back on their feet again.
one person in hospital said it was a mental illness because one you should get better, I wasn’t aware of being treatment resistant back then but at least they got on meds which I can get through most of my day on these days
@Jayster Yeah, I thought I heard someone say that on this forum.
Yeah, it sucks treatment resistance is a thing.
I still haven’t tried clozapine as I’m on amisulpride and amitriptyline. They said I was too overweight to try that one but internet says clozapine can even fail too and other sites show they mixed it with amisulpride!
Have you been considered treatment resistant?
LOL. I have said that before!
Yep they said I am.
that sucks, but you said you haven’t tried clozapine yet. Which is good, because that’s usually the last line of defense, and is supposed to be pretty effective. I hope it works for you.
I’ll bring it up when I see them next because I basically want to be on that one so I know I’ve taken medication as far as I can take it
I hope it works for you, cause if it doesn’t you’re kinda screwed, unless you have decent coping mechanisms. You seem to be speaking coherently which is a good sign.
Apparently, like schizophrenia, blindness comes in mild, moderate, and severe.
Well I guess there are different types of blindness, like legally blind, macular degenerative, etc. So that makes sense.
Yeah I have procedures which I can revert back too. I also have dissociative identity disorder too,
Oh, huh. dissociative identity disorder I’ll never be able to wrap my brain around. I guess that’s like how schizophrenia is to non schizophrenics.
It’s fun to dissociate because it’s a good coping mech.
Interesting. Does your pdoc agree that it’s a healthy coping mechanism?
