That’s not entirely true. This incident technically happened in the workplace (presumably Katy Perry is getting paid for her judging stint). I sure hope the HR and legal departments are paying attention.

Big difference between a 33 year old man kissing a 19 year old gal, than a 33 year old woman kissing a 19 year old guy.
I’m sorry. But that’s just the way it is.
I thought in order for it to be considered harassment, the harassed party had to actually bring up a complaint. Is that not the case in some work places?

My wife still gives my daughters little kisses on their lips. They are 13 years old. I just give them little pecks on their foreheads.
As an adult male, we have more boundaries to navigate than women do.
Let’s just imagine instead of American idol a young actress is auditioning for a role in a movie. She says she’s never been kissed.
In steps Harvey Weinstein who ultimately decides if the actress gets round to the next stage of auditions. Harvey asks the young actress to come over and kisses her.
Doesn’t that sound like harassment?

Nope, in fact, at least in California, once a supervisor hears about a potential sexual harassment incident they are obligated to report it to HR and the company is obligated to investigate it. This is true even if the victim does not want to report it.

i still don’t get what the big deal is here. Katy Perry is like a music/ celebrity goddess. Getting kissed by her would be a hoot for most any red blooded American kid.
And I doubt she would commit sexual harassment in front of millions of viewers. I think people have too much time on their hands these days, and are just waiting to pounce on anything at all that may seem somewhat out of the ordinary.
I think this is irrelevant to this topic. I’m 22, and both my mum and dad both kiss me. And of course it’s not weird because they’re my parents and I love them. Family kisses are much different than kisses from random strangers.

I stopped kissing my daughters on the lips a long time ago. We’re all comfortable with little kisses on the forehead or cheek from time to time.
But every family has their own comfort level i suppose.

There is a component of whether the victim found the conduct unwelcome or not which is different from whether it was consensual. It also depends on the severity and pervasiveness of the conduct among other things. It’s pretty complex!

I think it is sexual harassment, and if women want equality and respect in the work place, they have to held to the same standards as men. Clearly she used her power to get a kiss, the same thing men are being accused of.

Well according to my news feed he’s ok with it, but it really could have been.
I just brought up the fact that my wife still kisses my girls on the lips, while I don’t as an example of the double standard that exists…and it’s there for a good reason I believe. Sometimes double standards have merit. Not everything in this world is either black or white. There’s degrees and shades.
But sadly with social media like Twitter, there’s little room or time anymore for critical thought/ analysis, nuance, subtlety or patience…etc. It either IS or it ISN’T nowadays, which is ridiculous in my book.
Whether or not you kiss your daughters has more to do with your own comfort levels than any societal double standard.
