My mother in law just may be trying to start trouble. She told my partner I said something that I have no recollection of saying. Could that happen?

I want to so bad but my partner is dead set against moving out as long as her parents still need our help paying bills. We’ve brought up moving out to her mom and she whines and says, “but we’re still so far behind on bills”. I know i have a lot of issues, but i don’t deserve for them to turn my partner against me all the time.
