I don’t know about cognition, but I seem to get overwhelmed very easily, especially under stressful environments.

I don’t function well in loud, crowded environments.

Walking into a large crowded Store or Mall is very difficult for me.

I can easily become anxious, paranoid, confused, disoriented in such environments.

Loud Parties or gatherings are also toxic for me.

I have the exact same problem. I can’t process my surroundings fast enough and I feel like I’m unraveling. That’s when the symptoms appear now, I get all introverted and creeped out.
I think that’s cognitive stuff. I can’t find any other explanation for it.

I used to have anxiety but if confronted I could still hold my ground. Now I get overwhelmed exactly like you said. Supermarkets do it too me too. Just too much going on .what is your diagnosis. I’m supposedly bipolar but.i really think I’m schizoaffective. Bipolar is not this bad

For a while in the past it was bipolar disorder, then it became Schizoaffective disorder bipolar type.

It depends on the doctor.

Recently I was Hospitalized and my diagnosis was Schizoaffective both times.

People diagnosed with Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective experience a lot more cognitive issues than those people diagnosed with pure or classic bipolar.

@Wave Hey how’s it going? I’m the same way and am very sensitive to my environment. I used to love going to concerts but this year they really got to me. I’ve become very picky about my environment and will often just stay home.

@MeghillaGorilla1 to answer your question my memory is very poor. I have good concentration and focus but forget what I just focused on. I’m very good at faking conversations. I forget what the conversation is about or I forget my train of thought. I also get confused with things like recipes. I was a physics major before sz and could easily understand the math and science but now complex arithmetic confounds me. Things get jumbled in my head. BTW what does your username mean? :sunny:

Well when I am in a psychotic episode typically my memory turns to crap. I will forget things, go back for them, forget what I went back for, etc. At worst I repeated that cycle 5 or 6 times before finally remembering to grab what I needed. I also zone out and make many mistakes at whatever I’m doing. I can’t focus and my concentration seems to slip away like a balloon.

When I’m not in an episode these issues are still prevalent but mild.

Memory is poor. I don’t have the concentration to read a book. I don’t have the concentration to drive. I can only sustain a conversation for about 20 minutes in real life.

Hi @SunGirl!
I’m always glad to hear from you.

I know what you mean about being sensitive to your environment, I’m the same way.

I hope that you slowly get accustomed to your surroundings but I know how difficult it can get with this illness.

Take care of yourself and wishing you a Healthy and Joyful Holiday Season

I was filling some paperwork month ago, and stopped to ask what year is it, I’ve spaced out and honestly couldn’t remember what year is it. I can’t describe it, this is some sort of feeling blank sometimes feeling.

Also I genuinely did not knew my own birthday until week ago googled or something, I only could recall when I was 20 and then 30 but not in between and after. This probably byproduct of extreme delusions and paranoia. Just a guess

Not sure how much these are mental illness related or learning difficulty related: Executive functioning deficit, slow processing speed, much higher verbal than non verbal intelligence.
