Depot is genius thing

Let me explain to you
Meds that taken orally need to be
1.absorbed through gut some absorbed and some not then
2.pass through liver to be either more
active or more commonly less active to part of drug this called “first pass effect”
So when oral meds made they made it with more dose to avoid waste through gut and liver and to give same effect
More dose mean more side effect
Depot is genius it go to blood directly and to the brain over long period of time and with less dose and less side effect
For example
Oral 5mg haloperidol per day
Equal 50 mg haloperidol over month and even more effective!
Less dose less side effect and over long period of time no need to take everyday
yeah oral risperdal is nothing compared to depot consta. consta is so much more effective and better overall. i might consider switching to invega sustenna soon though because the oral tablets seem to be working really nicely and it’s meant for SZA disorder not just sz in general and I have sza mood disorder type so…

I am on depot too. I wish to be medication free too but sadly I don’t see it happening in the near future.

I was on invega and it was the worst experience of my entire life. Worse than developing schizophrenia and even more torturous. Glad it worked for you but sometimes it sucks bc as much as depot’s work in theory I feel like it’s almost like a double edged sword bc now that they exist if you have a cto they limit u only to depots and usually they force Invega on u right away which is a scary drug if it’s not for u.
