“Decreased gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-ergic neurons in the brain of both schizophrenic patients and animal models indicates that impairment of GABAergic function is implicated in pathophysiology of the disorder. Decreased GABAergic neurotransmission might be also involved in cognitive impairment, which is developed in schizophrenia.”
So I wanted to see what GABA was, and it looks like you can also buy it as a supplement, thought this was worth sharing. Also, going to try to find out what trigger GABA production.
Edit: according to Mr. Dre, the GABA supplements don’t cross the blood brain barrier, so a better path might be to find what triggers GABA production.
GABA supplements dont cross the blood brain barrier, rendering them practically useless. There are many GABA receptors in the body but they are fairly weak.
The only GABA supplement that crosses the BBB is Picamilon; it’s a combination of Niacin + GABA. It is not available in America; only in Europe.
And no, you cant just take Niacian + GABA supplements in hopes of it crossing the BBB; it doesnt work like that. Picamilon was specifically designed for such action.
Yeah I was reading about that, a lot of meds do stuff with it and it slows the brain down it says. I think the trick is to find a way to get the body to either reliably have good levels of it or have better control over it.
Thanks for posting. A warning - i think a lot of things that artificially increase GABA lead to adjustments in your brain, addiction, withdrawal, ending up more sensitive to anxiety and psychosis than before. Be careful experimenting with such things.
It is well known that dopamine has always played a factor in the those things you mentioned; but there is little to no research that GABA might as well.
I’d like to know more about GABA and its role in such things.
