As online-dating apps court new and younger audiences, some of their marketing efforts are turning off daters instead.

@everhopeful,are there some free sites for dating?
I think you need to pay to each site…

I’ve no idea. I don’t use them.

I think dating apps are in general free to use, with some perks for premium subscription.

Chatting someone up in a bar isn’t pc anymore?

Only to ask for IG. If you talk further than that it’s weird dude…

What is ā€˜IG’?

Edit: Instgram or ā€˜I guess’

No wonder everything is online.
Nobody even answers the phone anymore either. lol

Cyber life, plastic and unreal relationships. Seems pretty odd to me.

IG means instagram. Nowadays it’s your ā€œbusiness cardā€ when dating; it has become extremely important with the young generations.

About the cyber life, I like the idea of dating comfortably without needing to go outside, but not as a substitute but a complementary activity

So to go out with a woman these days you need to go online and chat for days to see if you are compatible.

Human nature means you actually need to smell another person to see if they are genetically compatible.

Hopefully my generation can still meet up say in a yoga class or something…

About chatting for days: I think it’s more of a screening process about how are you and how are you perceived. It can be very quick, imo. Otherwise you’re closer to beeing ignored/friendzoned.

I agree with your last paragraph. I like to have a sense of how the person moves and interacts. It brings out sex appeal rather than looking at a motionless picture.

it’s more than that.

Getting someone’s sense of humour, their laugh, their body talk, their mannerisms, and how they truly react to mine.

That is not something you can get online.

I guess people don’t enjoy that part of knowing someone new anymore.

It is pretty sad state of affairs for the younger generations, imho.

And no one can trust anyone online anyway. lol

Cor blimey, I am feeling old. :older_adult: :man_with_probing_cane:

Yeah but it’s the world we’re living in. How it has developed. For some, this is the only reality they know. And the ā€œoldā€ ways are strange.

I’m a millenial and I suppose I’m in between these generational dichotomies (for now at least lol)

Back in my day, people told short horror stories about how rich people would retreat to ā€œvirtual realityā€ and poor people would be stuck living in the real world.

I guess something like that did happen, if no one talks at bars except to exchange Instagram information.

I think this is reflected in the ā€˜old’ FB.

When i first went on it, i had interactions and people were interested in each other.

Over the years it became more and more isolating. Timeline algorithms chaged and you didn’t get the feeds to old friends as much.

Getting a lot of fb friends was the ideal, but no one cared about what people said or did anymore. FB frends realisation that they weren’t friends at all. You had to search the friend directly to chat with them rather than it appearing in your timeline.

Then I gave up interacting on it full stop. I just like certain pages and have to keep liking them to keep seeing them.

This is a reflection of the new ways.

I know fb is for old people now, but it was good at one point.

Now people are and feel even more isolated.
Popularity of people you don’t know is all important.

It’s all fake. Life isn’t real anymore. And people are generally unhappier as a result of it.

This is reflected in more and more younger people being mentally ill/sick.

I made a thread a while ago about women that go through plastic surgery more and more younger. And often.

Supposedly the ā€œplastic barbie dollā€ body and face is the new beauty standard for women.

Men don’t have it easy either. If you go through the right (or wrong) youtube (and internet) rabbit hole, you will see a ā€œlooksmaxingā€ trend as well. Jaw surgery, hair transplant, nose job. beeing ripped (through steroids). And more stupid stuff.

I’m just imagining the university bar now where we used to meet likeminded souls and chat freely.

Now you can probably lock a phone together/swipe and go your separate ways.

What a dead life!
