Culture is changing faster than ever

With the rise of technology, spread of ideas, Internet, exponential growth, etc… I don’t think you can determine one current trend consistent to the generation before you, or the same said into the generation after you, going forward as we are changing so rapidly.

It’s always been true but it’s more true like.

My 40s vs. my parents 40s. They settled down have kids and family and so traditional. Lol nothing will be traditional 15 years from now. We change so fast and people are going with it more now which is good I believe . Adaptability and change is good. There will always be some resistance but less so people holding onto old values and moreso people getting with the times now. I mean maybe I favor the progressive too much but part of progressing into progression I believe is to not hold so firm onto the idea of your youth but accept the ideas of the present. I think as we gain insight, we will realize things of the past are not always as they seem. Change is good. The present is what matters. I’d rather not live in 2019 the rest of my life but live in the sequential years that follow. Stories of the past can help us, but the future, is what ultimately matters.

BUT. Thinking about that all, coming from me…
I agree there are things we are certainly soo wrong about too. Like the potential creation of robots and turmoil and aftermath and stuff when robots are implemented into our society and we have robot wars and human vs robots omg our worst nightmare. Maybe kids will grow up with robots and see no danger in them. It’ll be like the Internet. Obviously a danger in it, but worth it and those who grew up with it don’t think much about the dangers of it. And eventually we’ll all be numb to it. And maybe robots will be somewhat benign. Well when they are proven benign I will believe it. But right now I’m skeptical. But a lot of things are misunderstood in their time, but accepted as time goes on. I think we should keep that in mind. Hmm. Maybe you think we are destroying the world though?? Maybe that’s your gripe. Well it certainly depends on the situation. We should have open critical minds. I tend to have a very open one but i Ask questions, too. I tend to have faith in the universe, though. People can help to change it I hope eventually we will were in infantile stages right now of the potential of mankind. Maybe I’m wrong and naive.

I think your focusing on the problem of evil. It is always there and it can go either way. (robots) But human nature always fails and takes up the evil banner. It will always be with us. But then the good has to fight the evil and it always will. but maybe it will end soon. He is good. He is love.

I’m pretty sure humanity is messing nature up irrevocably, and carbon taxes aren’t going to save it. We will find a way to survive though.

I highly doubt the whole robot war scenario, we’d never let it get to that. There’s too many ways to injure yourself with robots, the worst is probably getting pinched and breaking a finger if you touch a joint area while its rotating. Stuff like that. They’d be a liability nightmare.

I would love a talking teddy bear like the one in the movie “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” though. Now that would sell like hotcakes. And if we ended up fighting them it would be a teddy bear war, which is inherently adorable.

I think the biggest risk of robots and A.I. is that they could replace from one third to up to 50% of jobs in the next 10 to 20 yrs. It may not affect some of us too much, but it will significantly affect the younger generation’s way of life (Millenials and younger). How will they support themselves if they don’t start planning for the right career now? I also read in an article where Millenials are already ruling out the potential of ever owning a house. Mainly because the price of housing is increasing much faster than wages. It has created a major imbalance between increasing housing prices and cost of living, compared to that of wages being earned. That being said, I find those two things to be the biggest challenges we are going to face as a society…at least in the U.S.

It makes sense that many of us (humans) want to live in the past. It’s familiar, and therefore safer (or so we feel). However, time marches on. If you choose to live in the past, you will be left behind, and once that happens, you are lost. The earth will keep on spinning, and it will never wait for us to catch up. So I say give up on preserving the past, and look into the great beyond. The future is bright.

Yes, I sense the reality and I am seriously considering to learn computer languages that I didn’t major to adapt to the new environment as one of Millennials. IT industry is getting larger and overpowring and there willl not be many opportunities for people who have lack of knowledge about computers. We’re losing our standing. When I see the news on tv, what they mention a lot is the fourth industrial revolution taken by A.I. And I can’t be sure of my status in recent future.

You should check out edX.org. You can learn just about anything for FREE from some of the top universities from around the world…like Harvard and MIT. You only pay if you want a certificate of proof. I’m currently studying Data science and learning both the Python and R languages and I haven’t paid a penny. I do eventually plan on purchasing the certificates once I can afford it, but I’ll have to take the class again. Regardless… I still want to learn in the meantime though! :books:

I’m a committied transhumanist and believe we have little or nothing to fear from robots/AI. We have already entered the Anthropocene, but remain understanbly anxious about becoming a cog in a machine of our own making.

Oh thank you for letting me know. I didn’t know that they provide them for free. And you learn Data Science! One of acquaintances that I know majored it so that I was also interested in it. I hope you succeeed in getting the certificates. :closed_book:

I’m enrolled in Harvard, MIT, and Microsoft’s Data Science programs. The way the class and information is set up, I’d score Microsoft as the one to go with. They have tons of courses to offer, even aside from their Data Science program. The flow of their courses make it easy to learn the content. However, I found the content and the way the courses were structured from Harvard and MIT, taking much more mental effort to learn. So basically, Microsoft’s courses were more “mentally efficient”…if that makes any sense?

Mentally efficient? Sorry but I don’t know exactly what it is. You mean it takes more energy to learn?

I think when automation takes over and replaces human workers with robots corporations will be highly taxed and that tax will be paid to every citizens as universal basic payment.

There might actually be some truth to that as it seems like I came across an article that mentioned something about that but I never read it. You can probably find it in a google search.

Yeah, when something is mentally efficient, the structure and way the information is put together for a learner makes them absorb the information much quicker and easier. When it isn’t, it takes more effort for the mind to absorb it because it lacks the natural flow of how the mind actually learns information. I studied Cognitive & Brain Science for years (as a hobby) thru MIT’s OpenCourseWare, which is basically access to material that is taught in their classes on campass. I have a constant need to learn so I study so many different unrelated topics. Basically, anything that fascinates me. Again…free education! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The Brainiac thread. My mind can’t stretch to the present limits of computer tech. I was born so long ago . When they started teaching algebra like it was new or something. I more need a manufacturing job or economics or health care. Some things will still be necessary to live and for work. forestry, farming, food processing. The future of space may be limited by time and a energy source.
