Criminals can use your number?

So I just found out via Google criminals can use your number to call others? Should I be worried? Just blocked someone because they said they received a call from my number and I said that’s not possible (my phone number was restricted for a bill I didn’t pay till just recently too)

I had a phone call like that just recently. Guy said he had a missed call from me.

Exactly that, she called me three times and I picked up and then cut the line once I realised she probably wasn’t lying but wasn’t aware that it was a false call. I just didn’t want to get irritated.

Edit, as it is I’ve been really on edge lately about everything and this has irritated me too

For a few months back in 2022 I was getting a couple calls a day from people who were getting scammed by a fake taxi who was stealing their pin numbers and emptying bank accounts. The last call I got was from a police officer who told me to come to the station and make a statement. He was told to f off.

I had an intrusive thought that if this was related to crime and that the police will inevitably knock at my door. I feel stressed bc of it

Dont worry about it. Chance is slim it will lead to police coming to you. If they do they are bound by law to act correspondingly to you so dont act irratic or anything and nothing should happen

Well, it’s not like I’m using MY number for a subscripton to CornNub.

They can do that. They spawn your number so it appears when they call someone. If the person who got called calls back they will reach the real recipent of the number.

Happened to me a couple of years ago. But I’m fairly certain that the phone companies can see what are true and false calls if they look into it, so wouldn’t worry.
