Medicating kids is a tragedy minni in my opinion. I question every parent who does so.

I can only refer to my personal experience, so whatever label might have been attached to my mind’s condition at that time doesn’t matter. I was not brought to any sort of doctor. My son also had hallucinations and delusions at around 13, but I didn’t know about them until he was 18.
I’m not an expert, but I do know the science is lacking and evolving. I received a diagnosis of sz just over a year ago, based on my current experience. But my overall experience began when I was 12-13. That’s all I know.
You’ve been posting some unusual things the past couple weeks especially @Daze, maybe you have some symptoms creeping in. Especially here, the woman should seek professional advice and she is. The end of the story. Are you seeing your pdoc soon?

I do wish I had gotten some help. I asked for help and was ignored. And while I am against jumping into anything and labeling children, I needed help.
Dx’ing sz is a mindboggle of it’s own, and doctors try to stay away from that dx, especially with children.
Most doctors won’t medicate a child if there are other options.

Guys, start a private thread and stop derrailing this one.
It sounds like you are on the right track being that he has a psychologist and a pediatrician. Try to open a dialogue with him and see what is up. Maybe as someone suggested something is just happening at school, a bully perhaps or just difficulties with a class? That being said, looking back at my own preadolescence, my mental deterioration started in a way similar to this. Withdrawing from school and peers, and staying in bed.
It does sound like the start of mental illness u should get him checked out by a psychiatrist
Hi Hippogal,
I did have very similar issues as a child, but by then I had already lots of other symptoms. If your child is struggling to tell what is real or not real then you would probably already know by now. I would treat this as just panic attacks unless a doctor says otherwise.
My experience is very similar to everyones here. Pre-schizophrenia I would stay in bed a lot and miss class. Eventually I developed anxiety and depression but found some solace in work. Schizophrenia runs in my family on my moms side so I had a feeling that without proper intervention for my mental health that it would develop and it did. The best way to prevent it is to have open dialogue with your son. My “pre” symptoms started when I was 13.
My counselor said"well he doesn’t have any learning disabilities, so he’s fine". But he completely forgot I could have mental illness!!! I clearly wasn’t fine in high school!!
Thank you everyone…you’re answers have been much appreciated.
