How long did it take until you get it?
How many years you were visiting pdoc to get a most accurate diagnosis?
Mine now is Pseudoneurotic SZ (which is type of schizotypal) after 6 years at the same pdoc. Previously she thought it’s paranoid SZ. Idk why she changed that.
I was misdiagnosed with depression at about 20 , then diagnosed with schizophrenia at 39.
Woow that’s a long time… sadly doctors often make such mistakes
I was originally diagnosed with major depression with psychotic features then after about 7 years I was mostly stable relapsed and they told me I was paranoid schizophrenic and they suspected bipolar disorder but I lied and said I never had depression I didn’t wanna accept it then at 25 I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type
it didnt take long, considering my age. i was diagnosed with psychosis at age 11 (because they dont like to label young kids with schizophrenia) and then at 16 they changed it to schizophrenia. its been schizophrenia since then and im 36 now. so i’d say it took about 6 months to a year from when i started seeing the child psychiatrist.
A long road… many diagnoses you’ve got.
My first one SZA, then it was thought it’s drug induced very long psychosis, then my pdoc thought it’s depression with psychotic features (though antidepressants had zero effect on me) then paranoid SZ and now schizotypal… hell I am not sure which one actually describes my experiences.
It’s very good you have a clear idea what’s happening for a long time,
And sorry to hear it started so early.
I haven’t gotten a proper dx yet. I’ve been told I need to be assessed for ASD now and then they’ll review the sza dx.
Oh I first psychosis in 2010.
i just remembered…i got autism added to my diagnosis a couple months ago, so if that is correct then it took them forever to diagnose me with autism.
Wish you the best of luck with assessment!
But how tf they realised it after so many years?
It’s strange though.
They actually do mistakes sometimes as I noticed… and very big mistakes
Overall if autism describes you.
Bc they thought I have SZA at the beginning; but I’ve never had mania
Thank you. I feel if it’s right I can finally feel at home with the dx. I just wanted to know for a long time.
idk…i see where theyre coming from and also wonder if being isolated for 13 years and schizophrenia made me appear autistic. i did have symptoms very early on tho…it was questioned as a toddler and it was questioned if i was autistic at age 10. they ultimately decided when i was 11 that it wasnt autism and was psychosis at that age. but that was the 90s and autism in girls was often missed.
I also want to be finally sure what’s happening with me.
Overall if it’s SZ, then it’s mild. And I would love to know accurate statistics/numbers how many people are with mild SZ. Which do not interrupt with life too much
Again, best of luck to you!
Best of luck to you too.
Probably truth.
Overall what I understand, psychiatry progresses every year, and we can get even new diagnoses after 10-20 years… just it would be easier if from the beginning we knew what is happening.
Wish you to get the most accurate diagnosis
My current psychiatrist diagnosed me with schizoaffective mixed type which I feel fits me but I’ve also been diagnosed with bipolar over the years.
She’s still not 100% certain but I lean towards having both bipolar and schizophrenia (schizoaffective)
the very first hospital ward I went to went with sz affective…later the last ward out of three I visited in a year said paranoid sz.
how old have you been when diagnosed with sza? thank you
SZA was on 2016. I was 16 y.o.
- sorry at first I minsenterpet your question @Medusa
