Hey guys! Another food thread.
I wanted to make a dedicated thread for cooking and food questions. Any type of question from how to cook something to how to tell if something is bad. Like…“should i eat this?” Etc.

How important is it to preheat the oven before cooking something in it?
I got a suggestion and that is that cooking pork chops with butter makes the food taste more delicious. If any suggestion on cooking this meal if so post it on the tab below.
In my experience,
Very important.
If you don’t preheat,
You get uneven cooking.
Also the time you have to cook it changes.
It’s best to just preheat, as aggravating as it is.
What throws me is waiting for the red light to go out before putting something in the oven only to find when you do so and put the item in the oven the red light comes on again. Then it can take ages for the red light to go out again.
The light probably just means the oven is cycling. All ovens cycle because they do not stay at a steady temp. They heat up, cool, and reheat constantly.
I often bread my pork chops and cook on a basket tray. My basket tray is awesome. It’s copper chef.
What’s the thinking behind ‘leave to stand’ when cooking something in the microwave?!
It probably depends on how important what you’re cooking is, if you wait until it’s preheated. If it’s easy processed things, I don’t usually wait and don’t usually have problems.
@firemonkey Leave to stand? You mean leaving it alone for a few minutes after cooking? If so, thats so the food can absorb any juices and also cool a bit or finish cooking.
Food continues cooking after being removed from heat.
Thanks @anon4362788 . You can tell my cooking knowledge is poor, as I thought it meant leaving it in the microwave for x amount of time after the microwave has dinged.
That’s exactly why I made this thread so we can all learn.
is it true onions become poisonous after cut on and refrigerated? my gf told me that and now I am nervous to have onions…
No onions don’t become poisonious after cutting and storing. She might be thinking of potatoes. They don’t become poisonious either, but if you refrigerate them, they will turn green amd taste weird.
The green on potatoes actually is bad for you. It’s the potatoe trying to grow and everything but the spud is toxic on a the potatoe plant.
I want to learn to make rice again.
I make rice in an easy peasy way.
Put 1 cup rice in the pot. Add 2 cups water. (Always a 2 to 1 ratio). Bring to a boil. Immediately turn down to low and cover. Let simmer for about 15 to 20 min. Rice will be fluffy.
I just realised you can cook bacon in the microwave and it can get super crispy. fyi
I have a juicer that I use frequently. I juice carrots, beets, celery, apples, kale. My question is I have lots of pulp leftover that I don’t know what to do with. I’m guessing there’s a good amount of fiber, what can I do with the leftover pulp?
Oh you can do a lot. Add to muffins and other baked goods. Add to spaghetti sauce. Add to soups.
