Controversial opinion, but it's harder to be schizophrenic in America than it is to be gay

good to know in the event that the US low income medical assistance gets cancelled and I would have no way to afford my abilify injections.

I actually sent a pleading email to Sweden or somewhere asking for asylum based on medical refugee status and they were like “no.” :frowning:

Are ABA therapists a profession with a shortage, by chance? Or speech-language pathologists? What about nuclear engineers? Asking for a friend…

I think having any sort of severe mental health issues is more difficult to live with than with being gay.

I agree with you @Jackie
I will add- while for gays it’s mostly stigma, for people with severe schizophrenia experience difficulties
in functioning that gays don’t experience.
However, to be gay requires courage as a certain departure from the mainstream.

Ok, @soups, I am not comparing but it is the topic. There is no any competition between us, and I think some schizophrenic may be gay also. But there is a definite profit if govt consider any or both groups as Minority. Because it will open the reservation on job, education, loan, and there is chance to save their social dignity.

Many Religions might blame the homo or schizo as being sinful or with the Devil or something…

I used to believe strange things about homosexuality such as it depends what n who’s energy is in the body…
I was religious for one year and was not keen on homosexuality that year.
I am loving n accepting again now.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Strange but that year I was as I was.
I mostly just prayed.
I was a Muslima for a whole year.
I’m not anymore.
I truly do not believe what they believe.

I believe in something now and even pray but in a more easy going tolerant loving etc
But I am not a member of any religion.

Possibly my own:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::rainbow:

I was wierd as a child with symptoms so…

Anyway,good wishezzz to us yo😊

In India and Hindu religion, Homo is not a big issue to kill them but only family pressure exist. And for SZ it is considere sinful and in villages it is treated by doing religious activities by patients and his family ( which is harmful). My mother sometimes also gave me special treatment in a holy Hindu temple when I was in episode period, but I don’t believe it.

I’m not playing a victim game, the point of talking about it isn’t to be a competition, but to bring up an important point that does not cross the minds of the majority of people.

I have been mistreated by the police and hospitals both more than once. When i was psychotic they just assumed i was on heavy drugs. I had gotten physically thrown to the ground and left bruises. At the hosptial i had been subject to tests and had had all kinds of shots and valves stuck in me which i did not agree to. All after my diagnosis but of course i wasnt going to tell them and they had no way of knowing, but police and medical staff are inclined to treat anyone they think is on drugs like a subhuman creature

In honor of LGBT pride month, McDonalds has a “Rainbow” down the middle of their french fry carton.
Not sure how far this was extended, I live just north of San Francisco -where nothing is considered odd.

Maybe next will be a Sz carton?

The gay population is maybe 4 percent. But seem to occupy 10 percent of Hollywoods attention or better. Reality shows boast a larger than life percentage of gay participants. The president honors the gay population by lightning up the white house in rainbow colors. Gay pride is as proud as any group possibly more so than any. Rainbows cover flags and any trinket you can think of. If I am gay and fired due to it or descriminated because of it a lawsuit would be in my favor and I would have outside support. When you are sz you have none of this. Gays are honored in the US. Don’t remember ever seeing the mi pride week. No parades ,no respect, no comparison.

People with schizophrenia are protected by the ADA in regards to employment and housing. Gay people are not.

Being protected and having the ability to take someone to court and fight for themselves are two separate issues. The courtroom is no place for sz. @kindness

Whether it’s cuz I’m sza or trans, I’ve been discriminated for both and lost jobs for both…altho neither was the STATED cause. My mom experienced age discrimination in getting promoted as a government security specialist but was always given “other” reasons. Discrimination exists for many reasons and permeates our society, even when it’s “illegal”. They just find other reasons…

Yes, you are right.!!

Same thing happened to me.

When you suspended from job, than a certificate from Medical Doctor is required that Sz is treated by him and his behaviour is under control, for any further claim.
