Controversial opinion, but it's harder to be schizophrenic in America than it is to be gay

You make a valid point. A lot of the stigma against gay people and against people with schizophrenia is based on irrational feelings. Some people are swayed more by repulsion and fear than by logic and love. We should pity them for this and try to help them accept the world for what it is.

If you want to live in society than there is a word " Justification ". Love and logic are limited. There are other way also but I don’t want to mention here.

And when those justifications are neither based in love nor in logic, you end up with a dysfunctional society whose rules and laws are immoral and unjust. That’s why they publicly hang gay people in Iran, silently incarcerate, torture and kill gay people in Chechnya, and about 72 countries around the world have laws that criminalize the love between two people of the same gender.

As a schizophrenic with cognitive impairments I have to say the mentally ill have it worse. At least gay people have full control of their minds, they can hold jobs and have relationships. At times I can’t even speak. This is much worse than having a sexual preference which is not socially approved in Wyoming.

Gay people can be doctors, lawyers, nurses, whatever they want. Roughly half of schizophrenics are never able to work even menial jobs ever in their lives.

With sz you lose the trust of your family and community. People treat you like an invalid or a child because of your disability. Perhaps they are right to do so, our functioning is so dramatically worse than the average person due to things like avolition and cognitive impairment…

Also, more relevant to the OP: Schizophrenia is a very debilitating illness. Homosexuality is just a normal way to love. If you even have to discuss which one is worse to have in a country without public health care, that has had several decades of active and very effective civil rights movements and LGBT movements, that says a lot about how hate can ruin people’s lives for no valid reason at all.

Yes you are right. But think in other way also. Justification is a process of law. We all live in under state authority.
State meaning - follow your leadership till he changes his thought.
So it difficult to say on what circumstances the above gay people were killed. If its against law of the state than they have a chance to migrate from that state.
If any body want to change the law than win election or again JUSTIFICATION in front of court or law.

In both cases you’re a freak of nature for better or worse, but society has accepted being gay in most areas, whereas not in sz. Though there are some places in the world where being gay will get you killed, so better to be sz there. Eitherway being delusional, paranoid, and hallucinating is one hell of a combo not to mention the negative attributes.

No, I think both are not same. Sz is an illness and nobody wants it. Gay live with their own choice and don’t need medicine.

You can also say India 's freedom fight is like civil rights movement. And it actually depends on strength of state. In india now they are closing lottery, public alcohol bar, etc. Because they don’t able to manage it. And administration gives reason of security and welfare of society.

Not the case in Canada. All are supposedly protected. In reality, the amount of protection you receive is based on some twisted ā€˜victim hierarchy’. Muslims are preferred over gays. Mentally ill usually do pretty well, unless they’re white (especially male), then it’s difficult to guess how an HRC ruling will turn out.

My favorite professor in college was fired for being openly gay. It was a Christian college, so they got away with it because of ā€œreligious freedom.ā€ We were all furious.

That’s HORRIBLE. I wish we could ban religion.

We revolted by submitting only films with openly gay characters to the film festival. The college had to either cancel the festival, or feature all the gay storylines. They chose to play the films.

I live close to NYC and coming out as being Gay, is really not a big deal around here.
The stigma surrounding Schizophrenia is rather intense, more so than coming out as being Gay.
I guess it depends where you live but overall it’s probably going to be tougher on you if you suffer with a severe mental illness like Schizophrenia.

I live out in Kentucky so it’s hard for me to say how people here react to either thing, I’m also trans but haven’t come out about it to many except my friends and anyone in my family who’s accepting. Everyone here is religious too, or a huge majority of people are, so I figure people might think if someone’s Schizophrenic, if they don’t outright say the diagnosis but rather say what a delusion they have is (especially religious delusions), they might actually believe you.
Edit: However if you start saying you’re JEsus, that might not pass…so it just depends.

Of course it is. Being gay isn’t a disability. It’s certainly something that can lead you to face stigma but sz is a disability AND deals w stigma.

Does this mean there is no way for a schizophrenic to migrate to richer countries, e.g. USA?

Why compare? Why make it into a competition? We don’t have anything to prove.

Nothing good can happen from saying ā€œ[minority] isn’t as marginalised as US!ā€. They’re not our enemy. They’re not our competition. Solidarity not in fighting will progress - divide and rule.

I’m bi and schizophrenic and I see no need to play these games… Both groups have it tough in different ways.

If your life is endangered by your mental health issues or you face horrific persecution (which is different from stigma), you would qualify as a refugee here in Canada. There is also a program where, if you have close family here, you could be united with them. If you belong to a profession where we have shortages, that would get you in. Finally, those who are financially well off can find their way in if they are investing and creating jobs here in the country.
