BACKGROUND:

Previous studies have shown that individuals with schizophrenia have a greater risk for psoriasis than a typical person. This suggests that there might be a shared genetic etiology (causal mechanism) between the 2 conditions.

CONCLUSION:

We found evidence for a shared genetic etiology between schizophrenia and psoriasis. The mechanism for this shared genetic basis likely involves immune and calcium signalling pathways.

I have a patch of flaky skin on my chest that may or may not be psoriasis. The nearest I’ve found that could be it is

I had psoriasis until recently. It went away gradually after I started drinking a variety of freshly squeezed fruit juices daily. It was a palm-sized patch of flaky skin on my left leg and had been there for several years. Anyhow, I started juicing about a year ago and the psoriasis was gone 6 months later (after juicing continuously).

A work colleague had very bad psoriasis and I advised him to give decaffeinated tea a try. He had been drinking ordinary tea by the bucket load (as we say here in Ireland) and I figured that maybe the caffeine was making his psoriasis worse. Within a week of going decaf it was clearing up remarkably, we could both see a big difference. However, he concluded after the week that the decaf tea just tasted like pee (urine) and went straight back to drinking regular tea. The psoriasis went back to being as bad as ever. He told me he’d rather have the pleasure of the tea than clear skin. I was struck dumb.
