Cognitive impairment and watching television

I just started to notice myself not being able to follow what’s happening on the television. I hear words and see pictures but I can’t quite put it together to be able to understand. The words are familiar but I don’t understand anymore when I should. I’m also having trouble shopping and attending presentations. I don’t think it’s my attention. I’m having a cognitive assessment but I don’t think it’s going to measure what my problem is.

Are you taking benzos? My concentration improved when I stopped taking them.

I have that trouble with reading. I’m getting over it by only reading what really interests me and by reading for short intervals of time ( 10 to 15 minutes ). I quit as soon as I feel my concentration getting tired.

I’m experiencing similar symptoms now for months, just don’t have the attention or interest for hardly anything. Let’s be hopeful this improves.

I’ve had it since Christmas.

All I can really say is be patient. I’ve had it for 9 months now, probably got better a few months ago. Still hard to pick up cues of emotions and when to laugh. But it’s somewhat enjoyable now.

This sounds pretty serious to me. I know how you feel, I frequently experience episodes of psychosis where I lose my ability to comptrehend what’s going on directly in front of me. When I am out of psychosis it is usually much better, lately it has been getting worse. If it is a progressive cognitive decline you are experiencing I am not sure it is something you can reverse. Of course for some it is something we just snap out of.

It is very serious.

I do not watch TV any more, or any movies, as I cannot focus or remember what is happening, or it simply will not make sense to me. There’s always too much going on in and outside of my head for me to be able to just watch something, it sucks.
