Cognitive distortions

Black and white thinking, personalization, over generalization, jumping to conclusions. When does simple cognitive distortions become severe mental illness?

For example everybody personalizes things when they feel guilty like when someone says ‘oh that’s cool’ you might take that the wrong way. But let’s say someone is feeling very guilty he might think when someone dies on tv it’s because he thought a wrong thought. Where’s the line?

Here is a website that has common cognitive distortions: http://psychcentral.com/lib/15-common-cognitive-distortions/0002153

Which apply to you?

In fact, I found in the library of my neighbourhood some months ago, a book called “Dominate yours self-esteem”( I traslate it from Spanish), in which talks exactly about the topics of the pages you suggest us.
