Coffee drinking and Schizophrenia

I found this article. It says people with schizophrenia drink huge amounts of coffee. I basically do that. It says they have even seen people eating dried coffee from the tin!

Also it says 85% of people with schizophrenia smoke. I do not smoke! But I drink a lot of coffee. It also says about lifespan. I don’t think antipsychotics shorten lifespan. Don’t worry about that part!

I usually use instant coffee and often just eat it with a spoon. Not a lot, but just little bits while I’m waiting around.

I drink decaf, though.

Caffeine is bad for us.

It’s harmless in comparison to antipsychotics. I get no side effects from it.

My symptoms get worse if I drink too much, but I usually stick to the recommended 200mg or less a day and I’m fine.

Yep. But that isn’t going to stop all the schizophrenics from continuing to drink huge amounts! A lot healthier and cheaper than cigarettes. Not bashing the cigarette smokers.

Caffeine is my lover however she can be bad for me. Too much caffeine has triggered manic attacks so I make sure to limit my intake.

Smoking really helps me too, but I’m quitting because I’ve smoked for 8 years now and I don’t want to get to 10.

I drink tons of decaf. Like at least a pot a day.

I think I like the caffeine. Decaf isn’t the same.

I agree.
Caffeine makes my anxiety worse which really annoys me.

I drink 3 strong espresso shots a day and one decaf espresso shot. It curbs my appetite. I’ve built up a tolerance to the caffeine I think. It used to really affect me at the beginning but I was addicted to them lol.

I’d like to switch to all decaf espresso shots as decaf is supposed to curb your appetite even more.

So. That’s my coffee story.

I think most people tend to smoke a lot of cigarettes and drink alot of coffee. Just to feel a bit more active because that medication is just not good for your state of mind. people need a little stimulant. And if that is no longer possible internally, we look for it externally. coffee and cigarettes. quite logical actually

Gives me something to do all day, drinking it. Something about the caffeine in it makes me like drinking it. I don’t really feel any different when I drink it, it just makes me feel better. I have noticed I feel worse if I stop drinking it all together.

Yea, i understand. I had the same problem. I drank 2 big cups of coffee every morning in the morning.
so that I felt very hyper. But as with all other drugs, it does not solve the problems. That’s why i stopped it.
