When I was 5, I watched a house burn down. I can barely remember it but I was devastated and felt weak and helpless. I think part of my attachment to cigarettes had to do with controlling fire and putting it out by crushing a cigarette.

Yea memories of severe events can linger on into the present.
For me
I don’t like sleeping on bunk beds.
One once fell on me wen I was on the bottom bunk. As a kid.
