Saturday I celebrated my 50th birthday! I had a party held at the clubhouse I go to and I had my mom, sister, and auntie fly up from the Lower 48. About 25 people showed up and that was way more than I ever expected…it made me realize how many people are out there who support me and are in my corner fighting for me. I had a bumblebee themed party…it went great except for “cake-ageddon”. See, my mom ordered a cake 6 weeks ago from one business and when it showed up it was a disaster! I thought my mom was going to have a stroke, she was so mad. So my sister calls a competitor and, amazingly, this lady bakes, decorates, and delivers a beautiful cake in just 3 hours! So my sister saved the day…
Turning 50 was a very big milestone for me…when I was 17, a doctor told my family that I’d be dead or institutionalized by the time I was 21. I’ve survived numerous serious suicide attempts and several half-hearted ones, and nobody ever thought I’d be able to live independently. Now, I live in my own apartment, have a car, pay my own bills, have a dog, and actually have real friends in my clubhouse and church. I am blessed!
Turning 50 has also brought a bunch of new health issues, of course! Last week I found out I need a hearing aid for my right ear, I need to get my teeth deep cleaned (which requires 2 visits), today I got my shingles vaccine, and I’m scheduled for my first colonoscopy…yay (sarcasm intended)!
I thought y’all would like to see the ugly cake from “cake-ageddon”, so here it is… I’m sure you can easily tell why we are calling it the “Mr. Hanky” cake (from South Park’s Mr. Hanky, the Christmas Poo)…
